@sabrage. As @goldotrak said it's not a competition.

@thunderbird. It's Japan Today. It's the old "I've heard of them or seen then on TV so I automatically don't like them because the are Japanese and well known here." I think she looks good and even if she doesn't look good does it matter.

I thought the boy's weight on the mesh caused the tear. It looked pretty flimsy. It amazes me how people think it's sinister and not just an accident.

Just curious to know if anyone watched the game from Japan and, if so, how? I have Hikari TV and couldn't find it anywhere.

One of my favourite, if not favourite, shows of all time. Didn't know his real name was Angus... just imagine how wonderful it would have been to have had two of them in the world... they could have swapped roles from time to time. I must admit I thought he died a long time ago. RIP.

Posted in: Say sayonara to 'sayonara' – 70% of Japanese don’t use this word for goodbye anymore See in context

30 people surveyed? I hear and use the phrase everyday as well as others... from young and old. I don't think it has an air of finality to it. What were the actual questions asked? No offence to the surveyor but the responses sound made up... I think the phrase is warm and sincere.. unless different areas of Japan have different views on the phrase. Perhaps my area is more traditional.

There are many shirt manufacturers. A year ago I read that Nike would stop as a manufacturer of football shirts. Under Armour has been Tottenham's shirt manufacturer for the past few seasons.

@anon.please reread both comments.I have never seen the a/c set at 28℃+. Sorry for having an opinion but I'm all for sensible work attire in summer ... or is this really just one of those bait stories so we can put the boot in.

@ No Ginger. Not as much as you'd expect. They show them but I thought it would have been more. It does get on my nerves at times when they focus on what a Japanese player does... especially if it's a small assist which they repeat. I suppose they are just proud. Australian media have made mention that Schwarzer plays for Leicester....? Congratulations to Leicester although I support Spurs. It would be great if Palace win the FA Cup.

Posted in: Cool Biz fashion season begins across Japan See in context

Can't see anything wrong with the campaign but as with many other initiatives the Japanese are 'damned if they do and damned if they don't', judging by the usual comments. As for the Japanese being told what to do... I suppose it depends how you look at things. However, I sometimes feel I live in the other Japan.

They should give Dave Evans another go. They haven't had so many changes since Bon joined: 2 singers, 1 lead and 2 rhythm guitarists, 2 bassists and 3 drummers in 42 years. I don't mind Axl but I would want my money back considering ticket prices.

@godfather. And I said TOO OFTEN as in I also hear these kinds of stories TOO OFTEN in Australia. Not sure which country has the greater number of incidents. Then again we are talking about a population of about 126 million versus 22 million. I could have made mention about the post's generalisations that young Japanese men do have problems with role models or that there must be a serious problem with mental instability and insecurity in Japan. "Meanwhile, back in the real world"...? Are you the star in your own movie or something?

Posted in: Madonna again criticized by Australian fans for stage behavior See in context

@thepersoniamnow & @scoobydoo. Agree with both of you. I'm surprised that the posts haven't kicked up a fuss about the girl's age. Perhaps it's because it's Madonna and controversy is nothing new when it comes to her. However, I can't help but think of the outrage if it were a female Japanese singer and a 17 year old Japanese fan.

Posted in: 2,415 stalking, 1,143 revenge porn cases reported across Japan in 2015 See in context

@disillusioned. "Nearly every woman I know has had at least one ex -boyfriend stalking or abusing her and, in a few cases, it involved violence." Are you exaggerating? If not then it's worrying. I don't know of any cases amongst the women I know; not that there aren't any cases. I suppose women are more likely to only share such information with other women ... or the police.

Posted in: 2 dead, 70 injured after 12-vehicle accident in Hiroshima tunnel See in context

Very sad and scary. I drive through a tunnel longer than that every day. Just a few weeks back a car was tail-gating me. I couldn't go faster because there were cars ahead and we were doing 60 anyway which is 20ks over. When we exited the tunnel I gestured to the chap that it might be a good idea to back off which he did.

Posted in: Patrolman commits suicide in toilet at Yokohama police station See in context

@sillygirl. I was thinking the same thing. I realise the way you carry yourself doesn't necessarily reflect what's really going on in your head. The police here don't strut about as much as they do in some countries. Does that have an effect on mental toughness? An old friend became a policeman and I remember him saying that part of the training was a psychological interview which he said was tough.

@smith the changes suggested are minimal so I would be surprised if they weren't implemented, despite the bureaucracy. I would imagine Tokyo doesn't want bad press and the suggested changes seem cheaper than relocating.

Posted in: Yoko Ono says she didn't break up The Beatles See in context

@Aaron Brummett. I like her music too. I like her album Yoko with the Plastic Ono Band and I like the songs "Kiss, Kiss, Kiss", "Death of Samantha" and "Walking on Thin Ice." I can understand Beatles fans not liking her work because it is very different to the Beatles' sing-a-longs. I like the Beatles but I disagree about breaking up after Yellow Submarine because I think that's when they produced their best material. Someone once said that Yoko stopped the Beatles from becoming mediocre... forget who. Anyway, I hope she gets well. I will admit I had a crush on her when I was about 10 : )

@JonathanPrin " Burning debate between (mostly if not only) foreign people about Japan" ...? It is an English language Japanese news site and perhaps not for you but for many on here Japan is home, therefore, there are many tragic stories that may ring true to many and so the debate.
