It is a little late, but at least it is finally happening. China has a big head start.

It is a shame that the accused are not innocent until the state proves them guilty, but guilty until they prove the committed no crime. That is a travesty of Nipponese justice.

The defense of Nihon has nothing to do with leftist mental disorders, one would hope. Defense should not be political in free countries, where it is the number one job of government. The FACT is that China has become a serious belligerent in the current age, necessitating a more defensive posture. Leftists are only concerned with their own power, which eventually leads to the enslavement of the populace rather than it's protection.

The US has spent much more protecting the peace 7000 miles from it's continent than Nihon has and the whining looks weak.

Dumbest thing I ever heard. iphones are made in the worst polluting country on the planet. Cutting timber in the US isn't going to do anything to stop pollution in China, where Xi answers to no one. They are simply taking advantage of the fact that lumber prices have more than doubled over the last 3 months.

Leftists believe that the US uses polls to elect presidents. But that is not true, we have an electoral college, one vote for every member of congress in each of fifty separate states. There is no doubt who will be reelected.

Trump has done an admirable job.

Reason and Wisdom? America rebuilt Japan. It no longer has a television or motorcycle industry for that reason. Stop whining.

Richard Gallagher, you think Switzerland is threatened by China? Appeasers always end up the first to be swallowed, find a history book. Switzerland is only safe because of the alps and the land based armaments they built into those mountains to repel invaders. Also every Swiss must join the army two years and keep an automatic military rifle at home for the rest of his life. The Japanese citizen has been disarmed and is helpless.

Prosecutors should never have that level of power that they can imprison a man indefinitely until he is forced to confess. In the US a trial must be held within 45 days or the accused set free. One also has the right to face his accuser in front of a jury of his peers. It is juvenile to make accusations to the public without letting the accused answer. This prosecutor should be fired for incompetence.

Posted in: Manager at Turkish jet operator says he helped Ghosn escape because of threats See in context

I don't blame him. It's ridiculous to keep a man in jail for years without a fair trial just to squeeze some cash out of him. This is about money, not crime. If the board didn't like the job he was doing it was up to them to fire him.

Posted in: High court nixes call to halt nuclear reactors in southwestern Japan See in context

The media exists to stoke paranoia among the ignorant.

The comments here illustrate that reality only too well. Kyushu Electric wouldn’t waste the money starting the reactors if the power wasn’t needed.

There is no reasonable alternative.

Posted in: Toyota, other automakers says Trump's Mexico tariffs would cost billions See in context

So many unemployed Trump haters have already forgotten the 8 year recession where the labor participation rate was the lowest since 1935. Most Americans LIKE to work and are very happy about the amazing Trump economy. Now that wages are rising, people are streaming back into the workforce. We don't need cheap Mexican labor, and the same people who don't want border security are the ones whining about the tariffs.

Don't like them? get that wall built.

Posted in: U.S. economy booms as elections near, but who gets credit? See in context

Fake news from a Trump denier. The President's approval rating is at 51%. Well higher than was Obama's at this point in his administration. The unemployment rate was persistently high during Obama's eight years, but is now at the lowest point since 1969.

Americans are not going to be fooled by such negative stories, and democrats will once again be disappointed, as they have been since the 2009 elections. The economy will continue to expand unless the media tricks Americans into voting against their own welfare.

Posted in: Abe tries to keep Japan on Trump's radar ahead of Singapore summit See in context

Despite the sour grapes of the never Trumpers, who consistently let their emotions rule them, Trump is a winner, and his foreign policy is so much more informed by reality than the last US president. Abe is smart to know this, and he will act accordingly. Japan does not have enough youth to defend itself any longer, and the idea of biting the hand of the ally that has made it rich is a very foolish one.

The US will always be Japan's biggest trading partner, and Abe is smart enough to realize this. Relying on the sorty of ambivalence that AU and India invariably display would be a fatal mistake.
