I'd rather have the basic Oreo one. Or a caramel sundae would also be nice.

OMG... must - have - army - of - robot - bugs. I will take over the world. Or, at the very least, have a great time for about an hour.

What kind of training can you give an employee to stop this? "Don't rape the customers." ?? On another note, these guys need to be locked up for a very long time. Disgusting.

Posted in: What do you think of the Mainichi's decision to cease publishing its WaiWai tabloid tidbits section on its English online site following complaints that it portrays Japanese society in a negative ligh See in context

I just sent them an angry letter saying I will no longer support their website nor buy their newspapers again until the Wai^2 is returned. While I don't think my letter will change anything, my only recourse is speak with my wallet and stop supporting them and their products. I will really miss the Wai...

Any chance JapanToday can start a WaiWai section? I really see no reason to go back to that sight now...

Posted in: Izakaya: The Japanese Pub Cookbook See in context

I saw this book in the bookstore. I have to say it look like more information than recipe. I think it would be good to learn about the culture of Izakaya more than how to cook Izakaya-style food.

What is the point of this picture? The fat guy (unusual in Japan) or the search (legality)?

My (Japanese) wife said that while her mother wasn't like the above described mother with her or her siblings - she knows/knew plenty of mothers who were exactly as stated above.

How sad. Why do people throw their life away as what seems to be the drop of a hat, in this country?

Is there a beginners level book in this series? I'd love a book that only has 1 - 3 grade kanji in it, or something like that.

I'm still trying to understand why anything the royal family does is newsworthy. Even my Japanese wife gripes about the news media wasting time on them.

Posted in: What do you think of attempts by police to get people to stop using cell phones and listening to music while riding bicycles? See in context

Personally, I think it's a great idea. However, I wonder just how exactly the police plan on stopping 100,000,000 people from doing it.

The Pope is a non-issue. The world really needs to get out of the 1490s, already.

Posted in: Task force eyes imprisonment for possession of child porn images See in context

No, it is too much of a gray area. An 18 year old having consensual sex with a 17 year old would put the 18 year old away for life? Also, I'm still up in the air about Enjo-kosai. Goods for services and everyone is willing. It's prostitution, okay, but does the john go to jail for life for that? I'm inclined to say "no."

Posted in: 7-year-old boy loses forefinger in Shizuoka park accident See in context

I hope they don't take the ride down because of one stupid kid. There is far too much child protection going on in the world. If kids don't learn that pain hurts, they will take that idea into their adulthood and be in big trouble later. I'd rather my kid lose a finger and learn a lifelong lesson over being afraid to go outside and live on his/her own after becoming an adult due to all the coddling we did while he/she was young.

Ugh. The dumbing down of the masses. I.A. had it right. One day we will be too stupid as a race to push the button that will stop the world from blowing up.

Oh, and of course SONY makes the worst sort of hack products imaginable as well. Let's not forget that.

Maybe I'll go back to Mainichi instead... -_-

Posted in: What do you think of the new Japan Today design? See in context

Never mind, I see they are on the bottom of the page now. Still, on the top left would be better but I'll live with them on the bottom if I have to.

Simple is best. Compare Google to Yahoo. While nice graphics are cool and all of that, really all I want to see is simple text presented in a logical way. I'd be happy if I could turn off the entire top 90% of the main page and only see the texted news stories and embedded pictures within.
