@Suin Kim

Dokdo is administered by South Korea and IS de-facto Korean Territory.

Going back and forth about history on this issue is a waste of time. The reality is that South Korean gov't will not agree to mediation by ICJ nor will they freely hand over Dokdo to Japan to ease tensions.

The only way Japan can take possession of Dokdo is by force -- of which Japan has absolutely no international support. Even Japan's main ally, the US, will not support any aggressive actions against South Korea. The Americans value stability in the region NOT an armed conflict between it's two main Asian allies.

Now to respond to your statement that Dokdo is Inherently part of Korea -- I'm not so sure. But Dokdo is de-facto part of Korea for the foreseeable future.

@OssanAmerica

I think Japan should sue South Korea to get the money that was meant for Korean individuals back. Then give it to the individuals directly.

I rarely agree with your posts -- but that's great idea!

The true tragedy lies in the fact these former sex slaves are being re-victimized.

@Japan4Life

I call BS on both Abe and Xi and I say they are both playing from the same playbook. China is using Japan as a distraction from their domestic problems and Japan is using China as an excuse to build up its military and increase defense spending.

I agree with you 100%. If I could up vote your comment 1000x -- I WOULD.

I would also add, despite the war of words between J-govt and C-govt, the People to People diplomacy in the region is still going strong.

Abe speaks of wanting peace during his trip.

Xi spoke of wanting peace during his speech today.

How about both men sit down and talk to each other instead at each other .

ra19arcinas43 JUL. 05, 2014 - 02:59PM JST SK aligning with Commie is betrayal of US and allies. I support JAPAN forget SK....

@ra19arcinas43 Please get over over your Cold War Era thinking. South Korea has shown over and over again that she is a reliable American ally.

South Korea has assisted the US by sending troops and/or providing logistics to EVERY American led military expedition since the end of the Korean War -- not even the UK, France, Canada, and Israel can claim this fact.

Why is it always China and Korea digging up a war long over? You never hear any complaints from Taiwan. Singapore or even Australia.

Why is Japan digging up a war long over by "re-examining" the KONO statement.

Why is Japan digging up the pains of a war long over by insisting on visiting the YASUKUNI SHRINE when grandmothers and grandfathers that were victims during WW2 are still alive today?

According to various recent polls, a majority of the Japanese public are against this move --

I wonder if this move by the Abe gov't is REALLY IN LINE WITH JAPAN'S DEMOCRATIC PRINCIPLES OR INSTEAD A LURCH TOWARD FASCISM.

@OssanAmerica

Japan should announce that not only will they not implement collective defense to assist South Korea in the event of conflict on the Korean Peninsula but that they will seek to amend the US-Japan Mutual Defense Treaty so that U.S. military assets I Japan may not be used in support of South Korea,

Please get a reality check - Japan's global influence, softpower, and Japan Inc are a shadow of her former self.

Comfort Women system, in general, consisted mostly of legal prostitutes and recruited and operated by individuals in Japan and Korea, at the same regulated by military units.

Legal? On whose authority or legislative body made the practice of trafficking of hundreds of thousands of girls across Asia LEGAL?

It is extremely regrettable that China is trying to play up a negative legacy from a certain period in Sino-Japanese history by using UNESCO for a political purpose, when effort needs to be made to improve ties between Japan and China said Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga

Why is the Abe administration trying to hide from History?

Not good look for Japan.

ThonTaddeoMAY. 21, 2014 - 09:39PM JST But as a baseball fan who wants to see Japanese leagues do well, I think the real solution is to align with Taiwan and Korea and have an amalgamated league of about 24 teams , the champion of which would be determinde by a playoff between the two Japanese leagues, the KBO, and Taiwan's CPBL. Mainland China, where baseball is developing rapidly, could also be worked in. Baseball knows no borders!

That would be awesome if was ever worked. out. I guess we can only dream!
