"So you think Trump wouldn't go to war for anything?"

Nope, and you know it. Trump won't go to war for idealogical reasons or for the benefit of political gain.

Boy Strangerland, if you call that an endorsement then you must be really pissed at your girl Hillary who actually voted for the damn thing....multiple times. But why quibble---Trump wouldn't have gone to Iraq or anything like it and he won't because he is not an ideologue like members of both parties. He's a pragmatist.

I would be more worried about Zuckerberg NOT sharing real news and such. There is a priceless video of Germany's Angelea Merkel asking Zuckerberg to not allow any content that speaks badly of the immigration situation in Germany. He complied until others pressured him to do otherwise.

It will get better. Trump will actually allow law agencies such as ICE to work as they were intended and violent criminals who are not US citizens and who shouldn't be in the US will be thrown out and certain violent people will be refused entry and Trump (who did not support the Iraq War) will not get involved in the spats of other countries and all of these factors will lower the number of terrorist attacks in the US.

@Alistar Carnell. I know you were being sarcastic but, yeah, she probably did expect something with big cute eyes that spoke in a squeaky voice. That's unrealistic some people are in regards to parenting.

The board quoted the teacher as saying he punished the boys for bullying the girl by showing them what it was like to be picked on by someone stronger, Sankei reported.

Kudos to the teacher. Three boys picking on a girl and then faint when they get the same thing. No tears here. Bullies only stopped when they encounter strength. I speak from experience. Hope the three boys are jeered and laughed at for the rest of their school days.

Radical Islam sucks. All the more reason why to not push moderate Muslims to the extreme.

So radical Muslims are ones who have been pushed and forced to turn violent...?

@GW. I see your points regarding questions 1 and 2; I included them because every time these problems arise in China, anti-Japanese sentiment shoots through the roof. As for the rest, I agree that Japan has done a lot of damage to itself. I just want to point out to,the author of this article who insinuated that Japanapologize (again) for WWII) that it probably wouldn't be accepted.

@GW. You are correct to a point. Japan has a lot of elderly people who refuse to this day to acknowledge Japanese wrongdoing during the war. Having said that, there have been many attempts by Japan to apologize and Korea and especially China has simply said "not enough." At the university where I used to teach there are a large number of Chinese students and after listening to these 19 and 20 year old students go on and on and on, I finally violated my own rule about teacher neutrality and asked the following questions;

1.) What are the biggest problems facing China now?

Their answer; corruption, pollution and a bad economy (if you don't have connections to the government you are stuffed)

2.) What role does/did Japan play in these problems.

Their answer; blank stares and silence.

I then asked...

3.) How can you be so outraged about an event you did not experience?

4.) What would the ideal apology look like?

Their collective answer; more silence and blank stares.

Again, I am not saying Japan was the victim of WWII----it wasn't---- but what is the point in trying to reconcile if the other side doesn't want reconciliation. Perhaps Japan is just to valuable as the whipping boy for China and to a lesser extent Korea to mend relations. Regardless of whatever claims are made against Japan's past, we must remember that Japan has not fired a shot in anger over the last fifty years.

I wonder if China and/or Korea would be willing to accept such a gesture or just see it as an opportunity to continue complaining about past aggressions.

Today there was a clip from 1991 when George H.W.. Bush was president. Speaking on the 50th anniversary of Pearl Harbor he said (not a quote);

I hold no ill will towards Germany nor Japan. The war is over and we should move on in peace.

There are many things I don't like about Prime Minister Abe but I thought did well in Hawaii.

Posted in: Continuing battle with media, Trump avoids news conferences See in context

Two points. 1) Trump will have press conferences. He is not yet the president and once he is he will conform to standards more than he is now. 2) I kinda like hearing it straight from the horse's mouth rather than having a message filtered through a spokesperson which is then reinterpreted by a press that has proven to be less than objective.

Posted in: Why is nationalist sentiment rising in politics around the developed world at this point in time? See in context

One reason may be that leaders insulated from their decisions are "offering" the freedom and safety of common citizens. German leaders are basically sacrificing their citizens in order to make themselves look virtuous.

Give these choices a chance. Trump promised to remove lifetime politicians from key posts and this is a step in that direction. It might be nice to have a person who understands a bottom-line rather than a person who just kisses bottoms. Of course, Trump will be crucified for whatever he does by some people.

Posted in: Gov't reconsiders plan to change Japan's iconic hot spring symbol after backlash See in context

I will agree to changing the Japanese symbol that looks like a Swastika if all other people entering Japan change their names if their names may cause confusion. For example, anyone named "Gary" should immediately change their name or use a different name as "Gary" is pronounced ゲリ下痢 which means "diarrhea" in Japanese. We certainly don't want confusion with someone announcing they are loose bowels. Same goes for anyone named "Ben." A person saying "Hi, Ben!" (written in Japanese as はいべん排便) means to evacuate one's bowels. Again one can only imagine the confusion caused when Ben's friends yell "Hi, Ben!" across a crowded hotel lobby. So if we are going to ask Japan to change a symbol that is hundreds if not thousands of years old let's make sure people coming here change anything that could possibly cause confusion.

The alternative of course is to just accept the differences that other cultures offer.
