Spot on Yubaru! If I didn't know the truth then I would feel the same way as these young Japanese do.

It may be a private visit but she is certainly a public figure and needs to act with a little more consideration if not for her husband then Japan.

Posted in: Japan WWII leaders’ descendants reach out for reconciliation See in context

If Tojo's own grandson can understand why its a good idea to remove the 14 Class A war criminals from Yasukuni then why is it so difficult for Abe whose own grandfather managed to escape any conviction? Abe considers himself a patriot but actually he has probably done more damage to Japan than any modern PM of Japan.

Posted in: China says Japan should have made 'sincere' WWII apology See in context

If Abe didn't have such a well earned reputation as being a revisionist and didn't encourage and basically sanction changes to text books to name but a few things then his statement would probably have been fine. The problem Japan has is that her "voice" i.e Abe is so tainted that as long as he is in power this will never end. Get rid of Abe and get a PM who is not shadowed by his/her family shame who can start afresh and things will get better.

Now is your chance Abe to step up and be a leader. Deal with this properly and everyone will need to move forward. If you don't you burden Japan and her people.

Posted in: 7 decades after WWII, many praise Germany, scorn Japan See in context

Until Japan teaches history with a more balanced view then I expect Japan's denial of its atrocities and outright twisting of facts to continue for generations to come. The young Japanese will never know what went on and cannot be expected to because of what their government textbooks say. Consequently Japan will never reach the same status as Germany in the eyes of Korea and China.

Whilst people such as Abe don't care (because he probably sees them as an inferior race) it really hurts the country so much politically and economically. The rightist will say they don't need them but what about your people? They need jobs and want a future. A real shame this cannot be resolved once and for all.

Posted in: Nagasaki atomic bomb left man scarred for life See in context

I am truly sympathetic to him and all the victims and survivors of the nuclear bombs but as with everything there are victims and survivors on both sides. If you see some of the pics from the infamous Unit 731 then you understand that the level of barbarity from the nuclear bombs pales in comparison to the results of the "experiments" conducted at that centre. The amazing thing is how the "scientists" could have done this given they had to get close up and personal to their lab "rats".

Posted in: Nuclear regulator says there will be no repeat of Fukushima under new safety rules See in context

Yeah you're right there is no such thing as absolute safety but putting nuclear reactors in Japan is like standing in the middle of road and hoping that you don't get hit by the 2 way traffic.

Its hard to believe that there will be no physical side effects given Chernobyl. I guess only the inhabitants of Fukushima will really no as there is no way this will be reported in the Japan press.

Does anyone have a link to the manga? I would like to see it and see whether he uses the old cross bones and skull for the Chinese flag.

I went onto the youtube link to see it and I have got to say Abe or his team really should not have put a pirate flag over what is definitely China. Thats no way to improve relations and as the PM of Japan he should know better. However after thinking about it I now actually think this guy wants to start a war. The reason I think that is because I believe he wants to write a new history for Japan where they are not portrayed as the bad guys in history but as defending Japan and democracy.
