Posted in: Organizers opt for harmony in new Tokyo 2020 Olympic logo See in context

This logo is bad in many ways in my opinion. The uniformity in color and shapes just gives a feel of rigidity and complexity, and a lack of variety (which in a logo that represents openness to cultures of the world is bad). Then, the cultural refrences with the indigo, checkered pattern are pretty geo-centric, as they are not commonly known outside Japan. After that, there's perfectly centered logo for olympics, and off-balance one for the paralympics, which again conveys the wrong message.... (i'm sure that's unintended however).

People will want to smoke anyways - ban the harmelss stuff, and people move on to more dangerous stuff. Did prohibition stop people from drinking? nope, they drank more harmful stuff. Personally I see this "dangerous drug" problem as a direct consequence of overly severe ban on pot in japan. Funny enough cases of accidents related to "dangerous drugs" in Japan have gone up from less than 10 in 2012 and 2013 to over 100 in 2014 (since they started actively banning these. Source: newsZero bulletin from yesterday night).

ilovenippon: Your negative criticism was unreasonable and fact-less.

LOL. i'm just telling my opinion, which is based on my personal experience. I could be wrong, perhaps, but I truly don't see what's unreasonable about that.

iLoveNippon at 09:31 PM JST - 24th February : Wrong. When you watch a European ice skating contest ON JAPANESE TV, you will see bill boards for Lotte and other Japanese companies IN THE FOREIGN STADIUM. You could not be MORE wrong.

.. I don't know buddy, I could be wrong, as you say, just my opinion here. Still haven't seen such fascination for ice skating in my 8 years in japan, even in the previous years olympics, or the european ice skating contests with lotte ads.

I didn't say there was previously NO attention to ice skating, simply that i feel there is more now than usual.

Before nobody seemed to care about it, suddenly it seems like japan loves figure skating, a LOT. Today I saw people watching it on their 1Seg mobile phones while walking, volume blasting and all. Even at work people were doing it. Don't get me wrong, i like figure skating, but it seems to me i'm witnessing one of those 'minna isshoni' moments.

They should go after the real drugs, like Shabu, which are much more common (and problematic) than weed. waste of time.

Got groped twice (i'm a guy): once by an old lady simply hugging me, another time by a younger OL-type who played with my oshiri as if it was a stressball. In both cases, didn't say anything as it seemed to provide more relief to the other person than it was causing me discomfort. Maybe i'm an altruist.

Always amazed me how in japan Hotel food has this 'good' image. Where i come from, hotel food means food that's overpriced, mediocre and made without any care whatsoever.
