I'd like to see some TV shows about the SDF and what they have been doing, would make for some good TV ratings too by the sounds of it

Ogata won't need to sell his rice to skeptics. ... The rest he will sell to a local farming cooperative that distributes to corporate buyers, such as restaurants, that are more willing to buy Fukushima rice.

ok, thanks for the heads up, note to self : do not eat rice at any restaurants in Japan for next 60 - 90 years

FUKUSHIMA — Last year’s crop sits in storage, deemed unsafe to eat

if it's not too contaminated, why not use it for glue, nobody or thing should ever eat that rice !

Radiation is expected to decline year by year.

cesium has half-life of about 30.17 years (in 30 years it will be half as radioactive as 2011)

Where in Tokyo can I buy rice from southern prefectures? Kumamoto should have good rice, but whrere can I buy it?

you can buy rice online, since 3/11 I only buy rice from south of Osaka or lower. I get the rest of my food from Costco (which is cheaper, and lists the contents of most products in English with fat / salt content etc too)

there are many apps (some free) to use your smartphone as a drive recorder, and with most phones the video quality is WAY better than any 20,000yen~ JAF camera, you just need a 980yen~ suction mount to the window and you can also use it as a GPS at the same time with some of the apps. I tested some with my galaxy nexus and it was even OK at night.

9,650 kilometers away ... The levels of radioactive cesium were 10 times higher ... far below safe-to-eat limits

in USA, not much, nice to know.. now what about the fish etc being caught closer to Fukishima ?

Officials expect it will take up to 30 years to decommission the Fukushima reactors

and tepco still plan to trade their way out of this mess ??

power will probably need to be put up to 50yen / kWh (for business too, not just the mugs like you and me) to even start to cover this mess

nuke is sooo cheap, and sooo safe in Japan... pull your head out

remove the current monopoly on power asap

police believe he may have been watching the eclipse

A: as everyone who saw the eclipse knows, this police spokesperson clearly did not watch the eclipse (i.e. assumption like this is plain stupidity)

OR

B: this police spokesperson watched the eclipse on TV and assumes it was large, dark and orange like he saw on TV, and assumed this is what the child saw. (i.e. assumption like this is plain stupidity)

OR

C: he fell out of the open window by himself some how and it just happened to be today at about 7:30am (i.e. assumption like this is plain stupidity)

OR, most likely

D: there is more to this story than we have been told (example : other person was there watching with him, helped him to get near the open window and sadly he fell )

do they still feed whale to kids at school ? if true that's sad.

near ocean / volcanoes / river mouth etc are where the best soil / fishing areas are so most towns started in places like this.

tmarie - my understanding is that WE the tax payers pay for it

I'd prefer to have it paid for (at least in part) by sponsors, like the rescue choppers / life savers in Australia - thanks to Westpac, DHL, NRMA etc.

I think making people pay for their rescue is very uncool, should we pay the police who come to help us in the city too ?

A Shibuya park was "given" to Nike to do what they like for a pittance, why not have the rescue crews sponsored too?

Dennis Bauer , how does a container float?

http://resources1.news.com.au/images/2011/10/14/1226166/330337-topshots-nzealand-accident-environment-ship.jpg

some have a basic rubber seal on the doors, so they can trap a lot of air and therefore float, of course after a year some water would get in, so the contents would be damaged

i wonder if their families had to pay for the chopper and rescue teams ?

as is the case in Japan when skiers / snowboarders need help in the mountains ( Any trouble at sea however is a free rescue).

increased coal / oil imports

do we even know how many plants here are coal / oil fired, and how many are LNG ? (more LNG than oil / coal I think you'll find) Japanese company just bought part of a gas mining operation in Australia : http://tinyurl.com/7x46uup so from now, how much gas will come from the middle east ?

with no nukes the average family power bill may increase by approx 1500yen / month ? will that kill your family ?

do we know how many business will close directly because of the increased power costs ? (and not for other reasons)

how many new jobs could be created by developing / installing the new alternative / conservation of energy projects ?

Hokkaido Electric Power also said they will struggle as air conditioning gets cranked up in Japan’s sweltering summer.

a/c really needed in Hokkaido ? give me a break :)

the average person will not die with a/c turned up a few C, people used to live just last century without a/c!

if the average person saves power there will be no power cuts to essentials like hospitals etc and nobody should die.

BUT

if nukes continue to be run by these greedy old fools, in the long run people will die ! they have proven to be lairs and cheats and can not be trusted with nuke safety.
