I want many athletes refuse to participate the Tokyo Olympic in 2020 for heat. Adjusting time to early morning one or two hours does not help much. On this site, heat problem is discussed a lot while I do not find the issue raised and discussed seriously in Japanese medias newspapers as well as on TV. I wonder why?

I heard before many homelesses in New York are not intentionally taken care to show people if you are lazy you will become like them. The country gives huge money to sports super stars and to a few successful  businessmen to show America is a country of chances and If you work hard, you can become millionairs like them and like Trump. This is an excuse often used to hide cruelty of a capitalism society.

In the western part of Japan, I feel, they live closer to rivers and mountains building their houses near to them meaning the areas are populated. The safest place from natural disasters in Japan may be Hokkaido.

It is difficult to live in a disaster prone country Japan. Someday, we have to think about a whole country moving to China. We have to keep a good relationship with China for that time.

Natural disasters are way of life in Japan. They attack us every year. Our characteristic as Japanese might have been acquired through living in such a disaster prone country. We became patient. It takes "gaman" to live in Japan.

Posted in: Japan's jobless rate hits 25-year low; labor shortages remain a concern See in context

Dr. econstats and Mr. Ganbare Japan!

I would like to ask your high opinions. Japan cannot continue the low interest rate forever and when the interest rate begins going up, what would happen? Are they issuing more bonds to cover increased interests? We are booming now putting aside our red-ink finance. Abe and Kuroda cannot stay in their positions forever. Inflation which was expected to happen to lessen financial debts is not happening. During the time of Edo, debt ridden daimyo announced "Tokuseire" and "Okotowari" to bilk their debts. Is it possible today?

Japanese economy is good now because world economy is good. Japanese economy is influenced by the world economy greatly since our economy is export oriented - very fragile. When the world economy turns down, Japan is the first to be affected.

Americans do not have any right to oppose smoking. You are living in a dangerous country where guns are allowed to own by individuals. Guns are more dangerous than cigarettes.

A poor guy. What a gap between those who come to Japan on shopping spree and unprivileged people in China. I hope negative aspects of free economy in China will not become a big social problem. China is a state capitalism - new experiment in the history of the world. In economy books, state controlled economy will not be successful.....

U.S. does not care China's expansion in this area. It is what is happening on the other side of the globe. For U.S., China is important as a trade partner. For that reason, U.S. does not want military confrontations with China.

What will benefit U.S. stationing their military in South Korea and Japan? For U.S., South Korea and Japan are no more important. It is China which plays a big role in this area and important for U.S. to deal with.

Thank you for your information. The Havana cigar I smoked at my friend was I remember my friend said imported to U.S. via a third country. Havana cigar is expensive. It was a luxury moment of life. I think the situation is the same with pipe tobaccos which are imported from the Netherlands.

JT is raising prices of cigarettes one pack by 50 yen soon. Many are saying they will stop smoking. I stopped smoking a while ago but could not resist and began smoking again but I have to determine to quit seriously. If not I go broke. One pack of cigarettes 520 yen is too much.

Anti-smoking movement is very strong in the western world. But can we abolish smoking totally from the world? Indonesia is at the top people are smoking at 67%. They have a unique cigarette "GARAM." It was nice but a little too sweet. I do not hear people in Indonesia suffer cancer more than other countries.

Long time ago when I visited my American friend's house in Tokyo, they recommended me a Havana cigar after a meal for me. The Havana cigar was great. I do not forget the gorgeous night I spent with my friend. I was impressed at the same time about a civilized American tradition of treating guests. What has happened to Havana cigars after the anti-smoking movement in U.S.? Are they still smoking Havana cigars in U.S.?

I wonder whaling today is profitable as a business in Japan. Ordinary consumers are not buying and eating whale meat. We had better stop any whaling considering the images we give to the world. It may be wise for us to adjust ourselves to the western civilization and their standard.
