Why can't Japan just use contactless debit and credit cards like other countries? There is no need for all these ***pay services at all.

Posted in: Theme-park food to be taxed 10% if eaten at table; 8% if eaten while walking See in context

Newspapers will be taxed at 10 percent if purchased at stations or hotels, but 8 percent if delivered to homes.

This is bizarre. Why not just set the tax on newspapers at 8% no matter where or how they are bought?

According to the government's "logic" people in wheelchairs should always pay 8% tax for restaurant food as they are always sitting in their own seat. It would be much simpler to tax all restaurant and cooked food at 10% and fresh produce at 8%. I can see situations where restaurants will claim their chairs and tables are owned by a separate company so that they can charge the lower tax rate.

90.6% of Americans are insured and have healthcare coverage.

Do you think it's a good thing that 9.4% of the population are uninsured? Do you think those people should have access to medical treatment, or is it just tough luck / serves them right for being losers etc.?

The fear of being fired and losing their healthcare keeps many employees from demanding better wages, longer holidays etc. Instead of wasting trillions of dollars bombing dumps in the Middle East, why not spend the money defending Americans from disease by giving everyone access to treatment?

It's time Lying Johnson met some EU leaders instead of surrounding himself with toadies who only tell him what he wants to hear. If he wants a new deal why is he wasting time travelling around the UK talking rubbish?

The same thing happened at Wells Fargo bank when their management set unrealistic sales targets. Employees of Japan Post are also expected to sell a certain number of new years cards too. Of course, these targets do not apply to the half-wit managers who set them and who think sales can be increased by decree.

If you have any holiday left you can take it all before you officially leave the company. I enjoyed five weeks of paid holidays when I left my company job here. The boss wasn't very happy but there was nothing he could do about it. I sent him a postcard during my travels.

The conservatives promised new rail links in the north before the last election. As soon as the election was over they cancelled the plans. Lying Johnson clearly expects people to fall for the same ruse once again.

Let's face it. He's not an emperor. He's like a Ferrari with no engine. So why call him what he is?

There are various combinations of Kanji that can mean "emperor". The one used in Japan is 天皇 which also suggests that the man is some kind of god. As he is clearly not a god I think the Japanese should be changed to 人皇, or just 皇 or 王. However, there are plenty of right wing nutters who would object to such a change. This is why we can expect nothing from this government panel.

Lying Johnson keeps saying he wants to renegotiate the withdrawal agreement, but I haven't heard any detail at all about what he wants to do, other than make the backstop magically disappear. He has had years to come up with detailed plans and ideas, but all we get is empty rhetoric.

Over the last year or so almost every Japanese news article on Nissan pointed out that Nissan was making the largest contribution to the profits of the Renault-Nissan alliance. Hong Kong media released video showing masked assailants attacking commuters in a subway station. Among those attacked were protesters clad in their trademark black clothing and yellow hard hats.

Saving Y15700 on your summer holiday is unlikely to make much of a contribution to the Y20 million needed for retirement. Even after 40 years you would only have saved about Y630000.

It's not difficult to save Y20 million over 40 years if you do what I do: no car, no eating out, no mobile phone. Holidays are one of the few things I do spend money on.

Although Abe didn't quite reach the 2/3 needed to institute constitutional revision, you can be sure Shifty Suga's Slush Fund will be used to bribe four "opposition" politicians to vote with the LDP.

It surprised me that over 40% of under 30s voted LDP. They are the ones who will be forced into the army if Abe gets his way. Don't they realise that in the army they won't be allowed to fiddle with their phones all day and will be crawling around in the mud instead?

No surprise there; the UK government is already whining about the need to protect freedom of navigation. It's a pity the UK government didn't apply those same freedoms to the Iranian vessel they seized. They still haven't explained why EU sanctions should apply to trade between Iran and Syria.

Lying Johnson strikes again.

The Isle of Man is not in the EU and is not bound by EU regulations. However, when products are shipped from the Isle of Man to the UK they have to abide by packaging regulations, in this case those of the UK (and nothing to do with the EU).

The UK would be in a similar position with regard to its exports to the EU if it leaves the EU. EU rules would still have to be followed. Tariffs would also be applied in many cases, making UK exports uncompetitive.

So a Japanese minister is asking a representative of a foreign government to ask his government to overrule the independent judiciary of his country to save Japan losing face at the WTO?
