While Lily Gladstone only appears in two episodes of FX’s critically acclaimed  Indigenous American television series, Reservation Dogs, her performance is powerful and is key to understanding the key points of the story.

What a charming, old school idea but I wonder how long the virus lives on a stick of chalk. And how well does chalk last after multiple cleanings with disinfecting wipes?

The world has lost a very talented musical star. He always performed 100 % and with a passionate heart. I was thrilled to be able to see Hidekiさん perform in Osaka and Kobe several times in recent years. May Hidekiさん forever rest in pain free peace. Thanks for all the wonderful musical memories.

Looking forward to catching a glimpse of both Matsuyama and Rahm on Friday at the PHX Open. Snagged a pair of free tickets for my daughter and me, so I guess we'd better plan to drive over to Scottsdale real early with the massive crowds expected. It's going to be a beautiful day, weather-wise,in the Valley of the Sun!

Haven't the temperatures been extremely high in Japan recently? My Kansai friends have been complaining about the really high temps. This would support the reason for overcrowding at the city pool in Kashihara, Nara. RIP, young fellow. How sad for his family and friends.

Remember that there is also a "father" out there equally responsible for this precious child, even if he was uninformed. Both should be held liable. What a tragic beginning for this baby.

Posted in: Japanese businessman fathered 13 surrogate babies in Thailand See in context

Is the implication that these children, as the biological product of a Japanese father, would eventually be going to a biological mother who is also Japanese and who, for whatever reason, is unable to sustain a pregnancy, hence the need for the surrogate birth mother? This point isn't made clear in this article. Or is this Thai doctor running some kind of "baby mill" in which case these Thai women are hardly "surrogates"? And if this Japanese fellow is just a sperm donor, then he may have signed away his parental rights and responsibilities, so shouldn't be "criminalized" as the headline implies.

I had the privilege to hear both Mr. George Takei and Mr. Patrick Linehan, the U.S. Consular General for Osaka-Kobe, speak at the special TEDxKyoto event, "To Boldly Go", held at Kobe University of Foreign Studies on Wednesday. Both shared their personal stories with humor and with grace, giving courage to many others in the audience, I'm sure. Later during the Q & A session, both gentlemen also introduced their supportive husbands to the audience as well.Thank you to the U.S. State Department for sponsoring Mr. Takei's visit to Japan during LGBT Pride Month. "Live Long and Prosper!"

Posted in: Kinki University to change pervy English name See in context

I'm sorry that the university leadership feels the need to change the English version of this excellent institution's name. Instead, they should embrace its proud geographic heritage and turn these possibly awkward moments into teachable opportunities when abroad. But this does remind of the coffee shop/kissaten I happened upon years ago near Namba - its name boldly displayed in romaji was "Urine (うりね)Coffee Shop"...

Posted in: Steamy new Miley Cyrus video sets viewing record See in context

It just goes to show that talent, as any art, is strictly in the eyes and ears of the beholder. Miley Cyrus as well as her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, of course, are talented. It's all a matter of degrees and personal taste. I enjoyed watching "Hannah Montana" on the Disney Channel with my youngest daughter - it was a sweet, fun show. People are still talking about her MVA performance a week+ later and what more could any performer hope for, right??

Why is Mt. Fuji "being considered as a 'cultural' heritage site, rather than a “natural” heritage site"? Doesn't "cultural" indicate some kind of human-made aspect. I think of Mt. Fuji as a natural phenomenon, not as much a cultural phenomenon.
