Rogue hero, persecuted for revealing the truth - the USA, our government of the people, for the people, by the people - the alleged protector of truth, freedom, and liberty is trying to squash this guy like a bug. What kind of people are we becoming? The truth has already been released - deal with it like an adult. So it' embarrassing - it's the truth. Are we led by such incredible incompetent inflexible morons that we cannot adapt to change and obstacles?

And for the record - the USA gov spokesperson says this: "The White House said his statements “are both ridiculous and absurd” and U.S. diplomats do not engage in spying."? What a load of bull - made me want to dry heave blood. The WH just issued a self deprecating statement accusing itself of the ridiculous and absurd.

Second the Time Man of the Year award - and this alleged rape crap - true or not - there is not formal charge - just an inquiry - so now even Sweden is playing USA yippy dog. That one man (and his crew) could stir up such a global frenzy of hate is extremely curious...although we haven't heard the Taliban's take on this yet....

When we give up our civil liberties to be safer instead of creating a safer environment where we can enjoy our civil liberties. We deserve what we get.

Home bullying by a younger sister and the guy takes a knife to her? Terminate that genetic line.

I love living in Japan - whether as a foreigner or just blending with the locals. Tokyo's still a bit expensive but for convenience, mutual courtesy (taxi drivers aside) - nobody can beat Japan. Quality of life is high.

Domestic farming is a national security issue for every country. If local farmers are destroyed by the huge American mega-farming corporations - Japan would lose the ability to provide food to its masses without international interference.

Also - we've purchased products directly from Japanese co-ops - their quality control, service, and products are top-grade - better than most supermarkets. Love those guys - yes we pay a premium - but factor in time, convenience, parking, gas - it kind of washes out.

Posted in: Hikaru Utada advises fans not to buy her album See in context

I heard celine (or was it whitney?) sing with a very famous opera singer - her voice was utterly straining - he didn't need amplification and she was struggling to hit the same volume WITH amplification...but not everyone's an opera fan.

Kudos to Utada for speaking her mind - but I'm sure the public favoring of one contractual label over another (especially telling fans NOT to buy a particular label) is contractual suicide - if she's lucky. If she's REALLY unlucky - Universal Japan's gonna sue her.

Posted in: Clinton pressures China over territorial disputes See in context

These language in these news reports always depicts the USA as an arrogant meddling nation. For example, the comment "We made very clear that we want the temperature to go down on this issue". What an utterly arrogant comment. The USA is clearly NOT an unbiased party and yet they have the arrogance to facilitate mediation of trilateral talks? If I were China - I'd respond coolly also - in fact I'd just ignore the comment as the rantings of an imbecile utterly lacking in common sense.

Is this the best our nation can produce in terms of leaders and leadership?

Posted in: Why are girl bands and glamour groups like AKB48, SKE48, Morning Musume and Miniskirt Police so popular in Japan? See in context

Because they're cute - and they can actually play their instruments - unlike when shonen knife first started - and people loved them aside from the fact they couldn't play their instruments (or sing in key)...ah...don't know.

Posted in: What's the best way to deal with screaming or badly-behaved children at airports and on planes so that they don't drive other passengers crazy? See in context

Distract them, feed them, give them a NON-SUGAR beverage if possible - water, juice (natural sugar). Carbonated soft drinks will make them go nuts...and NO CHOCOLATE bars or other high-energy sweets.

If the kids are old enough - video games and kiddie movies. Crayons and drawing helps slow them down (good trick to use before bedtimes).

Kids are easily distracted - when our kids are crying for no particular physical reason - sometimes they're just sad or melancholy - we tell them (or help them) to wash their hands, face, comb their hair (grooming) - and my favorite - brush their teeth.

There is no justice - if they find the punk (years and years and years later) and they actually manage to convict him - we get to pay for his incarceration either for the rest of his life or at least for the next 10-20 years while he sits on death row. Japan and the USA share similar "civilized" justice systems - civilized for criminals - unjust for we law-abiding taxpayers - for obvious reasons.

British - Chinese and American tourists may have poor manners - but they're not angry criminal punks trying to trash other people and property. But, I suppose every country has it's undesirables. China has a lot of new wealth and the communists purged academia during the cultural revolution requiring a bit of a makeover on the etiquette side.

Posted in: How the iPad won over an unbeliever See in context

I prefer to use the ipad as an internet reader device. Sony came out with the AirBoard several years earlier - but like all sony innovation - it was too expensive - great idea - poor pricing strategy (it was USD 1-2k). At sub USD 500 - the ipad is a competitive internet and 3g enabled reader - perfect for PDFs, user manuals, and light reading (technical or entertainment) - plus - you can watch movies on the darn thing. Although not the last word on AirBoards - it is simply way cool - and useful until digital paper with internet comes along...

How about the USA quit pouring my tax dollars overseas (ie cut spending). If they're really worried about the deficit - what about a symbolic gesture - how about our senators and representatives take a pay cut...sounds good to me...I tighten my belt, you lead by tightening yours. Ha - like that'll ever happen. Most of our politicians no longer feel our pain - they're aloof, disconnected from their voters - who incidentally pay their magnificent salaries.

Posted in: Who wants to work abroad? Almost no-one See in context

I agree with saborichan - most prefer home postings first so they can establish themselves at home. Overseas assignments can sometimes be career crippling unless you have an angel inside the company sponsoring you for higher-level management positions - and then you get the tag as the Nihonjin with foreign perspective...yeah right...

Not everyone has the adventurous spirit and bravery to go live in a foreign country, immersed in a foreign language and culture. J-Schools are tasked with creating a rather uniform obedient society.

2014? That's another 4 years of no jobs, no money, no food (and we won't talk about healthcare - have to be either an illegal alien or in jail to qualify for that). And the real estate job market has tanked? Used to be when most professional jobs tanked - we could go sell real estate to survive and maintain some semblance of professionalism - now even that's gone.

Of course - the US imports/exports over USD 40 billion a year in recreational drugs, soooo.....

Posted in: Stop negotiating this nonsense on Futenma See in context

The issue is not the base closure or movements or reclamation of natural fauna. The issue is if the base(s) move - who will close the lost employment gap without leaning on the government to subsidize jobs. Okinawa has an employment problem. Building a new Jusco is great - but if the people don't have jobs...

So the real issue is how to increase domestic employment, small and medium businesses, etc without depending on government handouts or foreign bases. This is and always will be the central issue plaguing Okinawa - everything else is just rhetoric.

Japan is not safe for single women. It's the same anywhere - don't make yourself a target - use some common sense. Sad that this is true even in Japan.

To send her to jail at taxpayer expense is offensive to me - a taxpayer. We have to pay for her food, her health care, her incarceration, her guards, her facilities (free room and board), ad infinitum. Just who are you trying to punish here?

Stats were 2 to one against - so that means 2/3 americans (in this sample survey) don't respect the US constitution regarding freedom of religion - that seems about right - 2/3 of americans I've met are racist in varying degrees - this includes blacks, hispanics, etc. American racism isn't limited to just whites. Country of liars (2/3).

Well - we can either just be rude to everyone or start sharing courtesy and hospitality. Loki520's experience sounds like being courteous is akin to "casting pearls to swine"...
