To answer Cam Stuart's question, there is a manga suitable for learning Japanese with no prior knowledge. That manga is Crystal Hunters. It is a fantasy/action digital manga for Kindle produced in Japan and designed specifically for beginners with zero knowledge of Japanese. There are learning guides at the manga's site that are easier to understand than most textbooks, and they and the first book of the series are free to read at the manga's site as well. And, Crystal Hunters is cheaper than all of the manga listed in this article. Crystal Hunters is definitely worth a look if you are a true beginner who wants to read manga sooner rather than later.
