Russia: you can use a banned and illegal weapon? Ok so can we. any of them.

The U.S. Russia and Ukraine have not signed up to the Convention on Cluster Munitions.

Some posters don’t understand the words “same” and “similar”

And Russia has already used cluster munitions in Ukraine. Are you saying it’s not “banned and illegal”, actually acceptable, for Russia but the opposite for Ukraine. Quite difficult following this logic…

Advancing “tree by tree” now. Not even in meters anymore.

They must be going through those trees at a good pace to cover the 1km to 2km mentioned in the article, although I read elsewhere they actually advanced over 3km in some areas.

The very first line of the CNN article.

“CNN —

The minefields in southern Ukraine are so dense, the troops trying to liberate the area can only advance “tree by tree,” one soldier involved in Kyiv’s counteroffensive in the south told CNN.”

Believing in CNN now? In the past the mass media tells nothing but lies. What’s different this time? Are you sure this unnamed “soldier” is even in Ukraine and not, as you usually profess, the reporter’s mind? A bit of hypocrisy when you can twist it to support your narrative there, no?

A very telling statement, basically admitting that Zelensky's vague PR language indicates that they're losing badly.

What a ridiculous statement. Would you mind exposing how your twisted logic brought you to that conclusion?

One thing to remember is Ukraine was defending Russia’s invading forces and it took Russia, actually Wagner, forces nine months to even take the city center and partially take some of the outlying areas. To date they actually haven’t taken then entire area and Ukraine forces have actually retaken some areas recently.

They are sure doing a great job of blamingRussia for:

blowing up their oil pipelines

attacking cities held by Russia like Donetsk and Lugansk

shelling Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

blowing up the Crimea bridge

attacking the Kremlin with drones

blowing up a dam that supplies Crimea with water

Yeah Ukraine advanced a whole 400 meters this time.

You seem to not understand the terms “invaders” and “defenders”.

Russia are the “invaders”, invaders are supposed to move forward not be stopped, much less pushed back, by the defenders. And I note that you said “… this time” indicating you acknowledge that Ukraine has pushed the invaders back on numerous occasions. Doesn’t say much for Russia’s failed “invasion” now dies it. It would be best for Putin to acknowledge the failure, cut his losses, and go home.

No, was a “terrible, unfortunate accident”.

these people were not the target it was “falling debris” caused by Ukraine supposedly shooting down every missile again

Mr Zelensky has just done that, he promised no attacks on Russian soil with his gifted weapons

Ukraine hasn’t claimed responsibility, so there is that…

But even if it was undertaken by Ukraine Zelenskyy is still true to his word as these appear to be locally produced Ukrainian drones that were used.

The probable purpose was to show Moscow, and Russia’s air defenses, are easily penetrated.

Good thing this article is about Ukraine’s lack of evidence

Actually the article isn’t about that at all. It’s about Ukraine’s military intelligence uncovering a planned sabotage attempt at the NPP. Of course they didn’t make evidence public, that wouldn’t be very “intelligent” now would it.

It may or may not be credible but better safe than sorry, and I don’t think anyone would discount that it certainly sounds like something Russia is capable of attempting!

And, sorry, this has nothing to do with the coming offensive but it’s entertaining to watch all the Putin fan bois, not to mention the Russian military in general, so worried about “when” it will happen. lol

I would say that as nervous and jumpy that waiting for it is making you and the Russian troops it’s already began and has been quite successful. But be patient when the time is right more obvious, at least to you, events will begin!

Announcing, and then deliberately delaying the start, was one of Ukraine’s best decisions.

It’s sad that “win over fence sitters” really means shame more new countries into giving money and weapons to kill others.

It’s even sadder that you support Putin’s invasion of a smaller neighbor that was no threat, with the goal of steeling their land and yes using weapons to kill. Not to mention torturing those the captured, kidnapping their children, and raping their women. But condemn others helping them to defend themselves. What a morally bankrupt position.

The Russians stated that Ukraine claimed to have shot down more missiles that Russia actually fired.

And the Ukrainian side said they shot down one less than Russia actually fired, allowing one to hit an industrial building in Odesa.

Ukraine’s report is believable, Russia’s is obviously another lie, yet you repeat the obvious Russian propaganda.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said Thursday that the warring parties needed to “accumulate mutual trust” for progress to be made.

This is a ridiculous comment. How does one develop “mutual trust” when one of the parties is in the midst of an imperialistic invasion, destroying cities, killing, raping, and trying to steel your territory?

The only hope of any trust developing is after the invading Russians go home!

Global crop yields dropping like a rock, due to lack of sufficient Russian and Ukrainian fertilizer and potash due to Russia’s illegal and imperialistic invasion of its peaceful neighbor. These two countries provided over half the global supply in 2021.

Global starvation and malnutrition will continue increasing this year and next year and as long as this illegal war that Russia started continues... as will Russia's failed state status as people, mostly military aged men, exit the country daily in part due to lack of a future. But failed states have MANY problems, and few will return as times passes. The destruction could end if Putin let his ego, and imperialistic dreams, would just let him admit defeat and remove his terrorist thugs from Ukraine.

Following up on yesterday's Proxy War debate. As we agreed Russia's effort to militarize Cuba in early 1960's led to US invasion of Cuba & establishment of Guantanamo Bay, Large US Military Base there today.

You were corrected on this before but you continue to post the same misinformation. You do realize Guantanamo Naval Base was established loooooooong before 1960, right? In fact it was 1903 when the land was leased and a base established.

And the US never conducted a full invasion of Cuba. Your analogy isn’t even close to Russia’s imperialistic invasion of Ukraine!

Do you think that building was only struck by debris yet has that much damage?

So what you’re saying is that you believe at least one drone wasn’t shot down and this apartment building was the intended target?

I tend to agree with the presumption that firing indiscriminately at civilian area of a city supports that they didn’t really have any targets. But I suppose it is possible that you are correct and Russia deliberately targets apartments and other civilian infrastructure.

One propagandist says 90 percent of the missiles intercepted. Another says all.

yet stuff is on fire. So how can it be all?

It can’t. But that’s what you get for searching for “propagandists” as you news sources.

The roughly 80% intercept rate which has been most widely reported is probably about right. That percent is also referring only to misled and doesn’t include drones which if any of those were not intercepted could, obviously, can cause some of the “stuff is on fire” that you mention.

At any rate all Putin has to do is abort his failed imperialistic invasion from hell and the war, and all its atrocities, ends.

The Military Operation is designed to keep Ukraine from joining NATO - which it has.

Actually quite the opposite. Prior to Putin’s imperialistic invasion Ukraine was no where close to joining NATO. Now, on the other hand, it is in a position to closely follow Finland and Sweden and is much much closer than a year ago.

End the illegal invasion and face the consequences!

are you referring to US/UK forces in Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq etc,

I’m referring to this article rather than trying to deflect with the usual whataboutism

Russia defending Russian speaking Ukrainians, who number 25% of population, who democratically and overwhelmingly voted to reunite with Russia?

The referendum was a farce, I’m sure you know that, but it’s even more ridiculous that you’re saying since the “majority of 25%” voted to join Russia, even if that were true which it is not, it does not justifies a foreign country invading it’s neighbor, trying to kill the other 80% of the population, and steel their land. If that small majority of the entire population wanted to join Russia they were free to move there.

There is nothing that can justify Putin’s invasion of a sovereign country and committing the vast number of war crimes that have resulted.

Why hasn't the ICC charged Putin for any other alleged atrocities including the alleged massacre at Bucha?

Give them time. The crimes are still in process and charges will naturally follow.

If Putin cuts his losses and leaves Ukraine it won’t erase the crimes already committed but will save numerous lives, maybe even his own (the sudden ending at the end of a seven floor fall is hard to survive), so that would be his best action.

End the illegal invasion and face the consequences!

i will repeat same line again.

there is no another chance to stop this violence just to take seat around table and negotiate about PEACE without any preconditions.

And I too will repeat then.

For this to happen Putin needs to first remove his precondition that the territory Russia is illegally trying to steal is nonnegotiable.

There could be peace tomorrow if Putin simply stops his illegal invasion, withdraws the Russian forces and removes his preconditions for negotiation.

But I doubt his ego will allow that!

*It noted, however, that though the Ukrainian defenders have “significant resupply issues” their withdrawals from Bakhmut positions have been made in an orderly fashion.*

Spin however you want to but this says it all!

I agree, it does say it all.

It basically says that an overwhelming number of Russian and Wagner forces, with airborne support, have after almost nine months been unable to completely take a small city. Even after nine months the defenders are only making orderly withdrawals and continue to defend Bakhmut.

This must make Putin extremely proud!

let me be frank.Crimea will be never UA again.its for 100%.all possible now how to stop this conflict is to take seat around table and start to negotiate about peace without any precondition.

You keep saying this but you do realize that Putin first set the precondition that the land he’s trying to steal is not negotiable and Ukraine has to give it to Russia if they want to talk, right?

Or do I misunderstand and your comment is directed towards Russia and you hope Putin drops his preconditions so there can be negotiations??
