The photo of her with her dog that was used was heartbreaking to look at. Really a tragic case. Now the snow is starting in the mountains, and it will be harder to find evidence. Keep digging officers, and find the person or people responsible.

Miyuki is great. I heard that she picked up this dress on Venus.

Plain? I guess you could say that she looks like the girl next door, and maybe that's part of her appeal. I much prefer her looks to a yamamba or those cookie-cutter kawai girls we see in the streets and on TV all the time. Very refreshing and very beautiful in my opinion. Keep up the good work, and hope for the best in your future endeavors.

I think this series of commercials is great, but I wonder if Tarantino is Kai's brother, or his wife's brother. Should have used Brad Pitt as the black sheep cousin, the beard he's sporting now would be perfect.

Incredibly great news. Very happy that he has been caught. I hate to bring it up, but now comes the trial. Hopefully he will get what he deserves, but I am a little anxious about the trial. I hope the police and prosecutors have all the evidence they need to convict this guy of murder, and not just getting rid of a body. The circus is not over yet.

MMA and K-1 on New Year's Eve, ah, the new Japanese tradition. Let's ring in the new year watching people beat each other up. Great.

Blue_Tiger, they are only giving McD's a run for their money in Tokyo I think. Still waiting for a BK in Hiroshima. (There was one for a short time, before the whole chain folded the last time. Hopefully this time around they'll survive.) I'm all for these new quarter pounders, but I'm still waiting for Taco Bell to launch throughout Japan....

Mohican is the Japanese way of saying a mohawk, as in the hair style. As you can see in the photo, it has a light blue mohawk or mohican pattern.

Posted in: Would you like to see Haneda airport be the main hub for the Kanto area instead of Narita? See in context

Haneda is much more convenient, especially if you are transferring from a domestic flight to an international flight. The Haneda to Narita transit is a pain in the neck. This would allow airlines to offer more international flights from local airports. I usually use Kansai Airport, because I'm in Hiroshima, but if Haneda had more international flights, it would probably be more convenient for me. As was written in a recent article here "Tokyo ranked fourth in terms of city functions among 35 major cities selected worldwide, with its main negatives being inconvenient access to Narita International Airport...", that pretty much says it all.

She has been sucked into the world of tarento, and I say she should milk it for all she can get from it. She is a successful manga artist, has been since 2006. Between doing the goofy tarento stuff, she draws her comics.

I also really enjoy the architecture of Japanese castles. I remember my biggest shock when I first visited Japan as a child. We went to Osaka Castle, my first castle. I was awe-struck right up until we went inside and saw the carpeting and the elevator. Of course it was rebuilt after the war, but as a child I was disappointed. I have since been to Hikone, Himeji, and several other castles. This one sounds like a nice one to visit, but I really want to go to Matsumoto Castle, which is known as Karasu-jo or Crow Castle because of it's black color.

Am I the only one who was reminded of the Bionic Man when reading the headline? It's amazing how technology is advancing so quickly. I look forward to a day when hard drives will have no moving parts, and be economically feasible. It really bites when a hard drive dies. At work we had a dying hard drive, and bought an external 1TB hard drive and carefully pulled off all the necessary data from the dying drive. We finally finished and were preparing to back up the external, when the external died. A one-month old drive. If we had one of these cards, we could have at least temporarily put the data on it, or used it as a backup I guess. Again though, have to wonder about the price.

I'm sure Osamu Daizo is currently rolling over in his grave. Come to think of it, since he was probably cremated, I'm not sure he could do that... At any rate, why, oh why was this lad chosen? Not only is it his first movie, but he is from Johnny's for peep's sake. Oh wait, I see the problem. It's a Kadokawa production. Do yourself a favor and read the book.

Who was the referee? Some really bad calls/missed calls. Seemed to do his best to help Uzbekistan. The game was OK. Again, Okazaki was great. Was Okubo really offsides on the goal he scored off the crossbar rebound?

Could've been worse. They could've called him Mr. P, or P-san in Japanese I guess. He shouldn't have been stressed, he should just make a name for himself, so he doesn't have to live in his wife's shadow.

Maybe Kim has nabbed him and he's now composing poems like "Ode to the Great Leader".

It's sad that this happened, but the plain simple fact is, don't go hiking by yourself. Always go with someone, it's just common sense. I hope they find him safe though.

Posted in: Microsoft releases near-final version of Windows 7 See in context

"near final"!?!?!?! Bwahahahahaha. I agree with JohnBecker, wait until after Service Pack 2. Then a few months later they'll announce Windows 8 coming soon, and delay its release, then announce support for all previous Windows will stop after Windows 8 is released. I really think that XP was a great OS, don't know why they had to make Vista. Now with Windows 7 sounds like Windows users may have to learn how to use it all over again. Being from Seattle, I hope that Microsoft does well. Personally I prefer to use MacOSX, though I am interested in trying out Linux.

It could be from eating his wife's curry before every game. Actually, I think it is due to STRESS. The stress of not hitting in the WBC. The stress fom the Japanese media. The stress of former Mariners' comments about how he plays. I am a fan, and I hope he gets better soon. Can't wait to see him and Jr. playing together. I'm not expecting any miracles, but I hope the Mariners do well this year.

Posted in: Fujiwara, Jinnai divorcing after two years of marriage See in context

According to all the reports I've seen, she is dumping him, not the other way around. The main problem of the relationship was him fooling around. It happened earlier in the marriage, and she said she would keep trying, then it happened again last year. I am glad they are getting a divorce. It is too bad it didn't work out, but it didn't seem like a great match in the first place. I remember thinking, "Jinrai?" when they got married. Norika is doing great work using her celebrity status to bring attention to the work the Red Cross is doing around the world.

WilliB and YangYong ifyou want a codeine cough syrup, just go to your local drugstore and ask for rikokode. It's usually in a small bottle that you swig down.

I thought the press conference was bad, now this? Talk about dragging the image of Japan into the mud. I'm sure the museum will be wary the next time a Japanese tour group comes through. Good riddance!

Posted in: Microsoft to open chain of retail stores See in context

Microsoft needs to spend their money on fixing their buggy software, or invest more in making Windows 7 a success. They are going to lose so much money on this project. So many well-established chain stores are closing shops right and left. Even the venerable Starbucks. Apple was successful with their stores because their products were often hard to find, now their customers can easily check out their products. Microsoft products are everywhere, and access is easy. Another problem is if they have something like the Genius Bar at an Apple store, they are going to be incredibly busy doing troubleshooting for their customers. In the end, most customers will probably buy online anyway.

Posted in: Aso rejects calls to resign, saying he has to lead Japan out of recession See in context

Sammi33, the people losing their jobs and forced to move out on the street are contract workers usually paid by the hour. If your hours are cut back, you don't get as much. Some were living off of 30,000 to 50,000 a month. Without a dormitory room, they would've been homeless. I'm sure a lot of them would have loved to have enough money to actually save some. Generally speaking a lot of money in Japan is in savings.

The payoff that Aso is pushing just looks like a way to pay people to vote for the LDP in the next election, but the sad fact is, it ain't enough of a payoff. Won't make a bit of difference to the average person. They should have figured out some kind of income tax reduction. Of course it wouldn't help people who don't pay income tax.
