@ Ganbare Japan : US built cars are too big for narrow roads in Japan, quality and reliability is inferior to Japanese cars and they are gas guzzlers.

.

TRUE !!!!

J - autos are by far premium quality in workmanship and technology, AND - may I add - in service ( consumer satisfaction !!!) compared to US auto / manufacturers.

Japanese are not dumb.

They are very fastidious consumers - and they will not by sub standard products.

The thing is US wants it both ways : they want/ need US Bases in Okinawa for strategic purposes - but they hedge on working collaboratively on trade.

Very true.

Point well stated.

It's pivotal - it's a decisive moment

If Trump insists on his MAGA policy to govern J - US trade talks, (esp on autos) - i think - we'll see Japan increasing entertain Asia & the Mid East.

.

When one spends money to buy a car, the decision has to do with the quality of product, performance, and service etc - not about any 'personality'. (That would be a very shallow way to make a decision).

Years ago I had a beautiful Maxima . Drove like a bird.

Then got a Pathfinder when my job put me on country roads -.never had a problem. Brought me through mud , sleet and snow.

However, have since the last 10 years moved to Toyota nc I get more for the buck - and besides Nissan has not come out with a great style, for at least the last 5 years - and not sure about product quality..

It is imperative that Japan government address this problem of family violence; violence against women; abuse of children through

legislation,

setting up safe homes;,

public awareness campaigns ( like they do @ train gropers),

integrating rights of women / children/ individuals in their education system;

making law enforcement accountable for not intervening appropriately when called ,

encouraging those who are at risk to call 119 knowing there will be an immediate response ans SAFETY .

ETC. ETC

There need to be a systematic change.

@ Yubaru " Battered Wife syndrome is far too real..."

VERY True.

And your point re: the culpability of 'authorities' - which include, the professionals at the girl's school, social welfare, and police - is point on.

In US, Canada Australia etc the partner of the abusing parent is typically often charged for negligence (for not removing the child, or getting help).

However these countries have strong criminal code with respect to child abuse, violence against women, Women/Children shelters, and social welfare intervention & support initiatives.

Japan Does NOT have a robust Family Violence Safety net or any viable nation-wide programs where these women ( mostly ) can find refuge, advocacy and intervention.

There's a whole piece missing in terms of where these kids and women can find help !!!!!

@ sourpuss ; ,,,,, *taxes and shakaihoken are all very similar to what friends pay back in Canada*, despite healthcare being free over there.

.

Health care is not "Free" in Canada.

People pay monthly premiums (which vary Provincially).

That being said - Canada offers only minimal care.

Surgery for a broken leg ? In and out in a day.

One can wait 8 months or more for an MRI.

Or pay $1000.00 ( over 100000 Yen) at a private clinic.

{However you still need "permission" from a doctor to obtain an MRI from a private clinic.}

@ Disilusions.

.

If you want to see a G7 country where services are "minimal" try Canada.

It's a living night mare.

Japan"s medical service remains pre-eminently on top: it;s efficient, thorough in addressing a medical problem, hard-working medical personnel (nurses, doctors), and providing excellent pharmaceutical options - along with a very fair premium scale.

Japan has a loooooong way to go before it can be recognized as ( truly consider itself) a free-world "democracy' when the right of a child *(a child's inherent entitlement ,***in fact ) to be SAFE in her/his own home** is not aggressively upheld by the police, health & welfare and justice systems
