Two Japanese friends of mine both had Ford station wagons about 10 years ago...all was fine until mechanical problems happened and getting parts from Ford took weeks. I see so many VW's, Volvos, BMW's and Mercs around, so I certainly don't think they failed here for not being Japanese.

This is much better than Sano's plagarised piece. That thing looks like something the crew of the death star would wear.

NHK documentaries are the exception however. Big budgets and excellent quality!

Posted in: Discarded dogs show dark side of pet boom See in context

Breeders must be controlled by law properly. I have an acquaintance, who lives in my neighborhood who started out on a small scale breeding poodles, pugs and Frenchies.....then the ones that didn't sell began to amass, so what does she do, breeds more and more to cover the cost of the unsold ones, and so the cycle goes on and on. She now has over seventy dogs, most of them getting older, none ever see the light of day....and so the cycle spins on and on out of control....

The observatory does not expect the eruption to increase in scale.... Like they know for sure. They said something similar prior to Ontake.

Cleo is right. There are many situations where search dogs cannot be used. I think the sulphur stench and ash would make it very difficult, plus getting them up there would be hard. There are teams across the country ready for disasters, such as Hiroshima last month. What surprised me was that apart from police dogs, search and rescue dog teams work on a completely voluntary basis....no food, shelter, gasoline.etc is provided for these brave people and their dogs.

This ferry previously belonged to the A-line based in Amami. Strangely their other similar car ferry, the Ariake tipped over unexpectedly and sank in a similar fashion in Jaqpanese waters in 2009. Luckily all survived, but I suspect there is a problem with these big ferries somehow...
