Well said Hashimoto! Finally a politician that listens to the voice of the people even if it is against the big companies and central government. Brings hope.

amazing how little media attention they get. hey were out there for 139 days?! Sometime it seems that the Japanese media is part of the government media team.

TEPCO shouldn't be allowed to operate anything. Accidents happen but their preparation for accident was not sufficient and their continuous lies after the accident makes them not fit to operate.

The Fukushima disaster proved that nuclear energy is neither clean, cheap nor safe. Problem of course is not the technology. it is the company that operates it for profits and thus has to cut costs even on the expense of safety.

from all countries Japan should be the one leading the efforts to stop the Iranians from getting atomic weapons. Japan should have stopped doing business with the Iranians long time ago!

Iran is a great country, with great people, BUT with fanatic leadership. They kill their own people and meddle and terrorize other countries (Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Gaza, Israel, Argentine...).

Is this the kind of country you are supporting, just to show that Japan is "independent" from US leadership? Is this the thanks you have for the country that supported Japan for the past 60 years and supported your Peace and prosperity?!

Do you also listen to Ahmadinejad speeches? I don't think so. For sure with every good there is bad, and yes, in free societies (as in the "Western" world, including Japan) you would always find some idiots. However all in all people are free to think and say and live the way they want. Society is based on humanity and pluralism, science and technology and yes also money. It is far from perfect BUT it is much better than living under laws of Islam as in Iran (and much of the Arab world). Those societies do not tolerate other views, thoughts, religions. There is no human right. it is all about "god's" right (or as it is viewed by some old religious clerks). Try being a woman under Islam law...

As to nuclear bombs. No country should have them. Yes, some do. It is not an excuse to let more countries have them. Especially not countries that threat to destroy others.

Posted in: Diet delays vote on Japan exporting its nuclear technology See in context

Accidents happen. Accidents will always happen. That why they are called accidents. Problem with nuclear accidents are that the effect lasts for many year. Oil spills are bad but after 10-20 years nature recovers. With nuclear accidents it is MUCH longer. even in high-tech Japan TEPCO failed again and again to keep reactor safe. even in "reliable" Japan TEPCO and government lied again and again. Why to expect it will be any better in Jordan, Russia, Vietnam or south Korea? There are many benefits for nuclear energy, but risk is too high.

Well done for Hitachi! @VicMOsaka - Israel does not threat to destroy any one. Iran does. It repeatedly threat to destroy Israel. Most of the Arab Suni world are afraid of them too. Iran continually supports terror in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt and Israel. It committed terror attacks in Lebanon and Argentine. This is not brainwash. These are facts.

Posted in: Thousands march against nuclear power in Tokyo See in context

well done. need to continue until there will be hundreds of thousands and then millions. most of Japanese are against nuclear power, but think that they can not influence or that it is shoganai. but it is neither. There are plenty of alternatives including the traditional fossil fuels. The normal claim for nuclear is it "low price"; Low price proved to be wrong calculation. who is going to pay for the cost of cleaning up and the cost of lost income for hundred of thousands of people? who is going to pay for the huge future health costs? We are. Tax payers. just imagine if there will another big earth quake tomorrow! just imagine if it closer to Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya etc. Do you think it will be different?! do you think that they have implemented any fundamental changes that now it is suddenly safe?!

So continue and protest until they will listen. eventually they will not have a choice but to listen!

Posted in: Palestinian leader to ask for full U.N. membership See in context

Palestinians do have a right for their own state. No one is arguing against it. Also in Israel and also officially by the Israel state who recognized Palestinian right for a state.

The opposite does not hold. Many Arab countries and most Arab leaders (including many Palestinian leaders) still did not recognize Israel right to exist. They are still declaring that they will destroy Israel (BTW - including the Fatah charter back in 1988...) Under such conditions Israel must defend it self.

who suffers? The Palestinians and Israelis. Who benefits? the Arab leaders who could divert the anger of the crowds against Israel and not against their own un-successful governments. Who falls for this "trick"? Many in the world...

Once Arab leaders will truly accept Israel there will be peace.

Posted in: France herds Muslim faithful off streets after prayer ban See in context

Religion and faith are fine. Problem starts when religious people start saying to people from other religions (or even other sects(!) not to mention non-religious) how they should behave. Worse they start forcing their views on the state laws. And yes Muslims are the worst in that respect. Just look at the Muslim countries and how "free" and "tolerant" they are. Just look at what happen because of one cartoon...

Posted in: Palestinian leader to ask for full U.N. membership See in context

If there would have been a Palestinian partner there would have been peace long time ago. Unfortunately most Palestinians and most Arab countries do not recognize Israel right to exists. Unfortunately there is not even one brave Arab leader who can say to his people - accept a compromise with Israel. Forget about the "right of return" and other unrealistic dreams. Take the west bank (as Israel already offered) and live in Peace. Unfortunately they are motivated by religious fanatics who could not care less about their own people not to mention the Palestinians. They are financed and armed by Iran, who has interest to continue the conflict regardless of the suffering it creates to the Palestinians. Abbas is right to denounce violence. Lets see if he is also brave to suggest realistic terms.

Posted in: France herds Muslim faithful off streets after prayer ban See in context

very good! finally a country defends most of its citizens against fanatics hiding behind "free worship". The previous riots just prove that they are right. Muslims want to leave in Europe but are not willing to accept pluralism, free religion (of other faiths), and tolerance. Muslim preachers are using religion and Friday prayers as their stage to preach for hatred and war and not love and acceptance of the other. They should be stopped at any cost before it is too late.

Posted in: My debate on nuclear power with Masayoshi Son See in context

LoveNot, no one thinks it is going to take one day to get rid of nuclear energy, but the direction should be set. Solar and wind are not enough yet but huge amounts of natural gas are available in US, AU and even Poland (!).

The main problem with nuclear energy is...TEPCO can not be trusted; this was the worst accident but not the first. And not the last as long as they are in charge. Simply there is no competition and it is covered-up by bureaucrats and politicians who seek position in the industry later on. Top management should resignfired and criminal investigation should be held against them for negligence. The whole industry should be turned upside down with much stricter regulation. They should also continue to pay for the damages. Than the costs will not seem so attractive anymore and naturally alternatives will surface. It is easy to be cheap when others (the residents of Japan) are paying the price!

Of course some in TEPCO are hard working engineers and some even risk their lives (and probably will not last long) to try and fix the mistakes of their managers. However it is not fixable. Not with today technology.

Why should we let it happen again?

Posted in: My debate on nuclear power with Masayoshi Son See in context

Logically it would have been better for Japan to have an atomic bomb. Emotionally and morally Japan chose against it. Like wise, Japan should lead the efforts for a real clean energy - and not one we can not control such as nuclear energy. Simply, the problem is not technology. It is people. They can not be trusted, as we painfully learned from TEPCO.

Hori justifies nuclear energy because of costs. Too bad he fails to calculate the huge costs for years to come of cleaning up the mess. Worse, he forgets that cancer can not be compensated with money. Can he guarantee a healthy life for the kids of Fukushima? Can he compensate for all those who lost their houses,, their livelihood, their future?

Hori with sweet talk tries to say that the problem is the "anti-nuclear-hardliners" are refusing to listen. It is far from the truth. Nuclear companies, backed up by the protection of the government are the one refusing to change. Not to mention the fact that they refuse to take responsibility for their actions.

Debate is always welcome. reading the article it seems that Mr. Son listened. More than that he took practical actions to help the needed in the devastated areas from the nuclear disaster caused by men and nature. Too bad that Hori, a president of a school, does not listen.

Posted in: Japan cuts radiation exposure limits for children See in context

The radiation in the air is just part of the problem. The real danger is once it is in you body - from food, dust or water. That why saying the 0.54 is no problem and that it is comparable to other countries is misleading. However lowering it back to 1mSv is step in the right direction.

Next step should be banning foods from Tohoku region until reliable testing can be developed. Until than import. yes even food from China is safer.

According to a report submitted to the government the radiation is 168 time (so far...)! From Today's JapanToday. Yet just on Thursday Japanese government lifted ban on beef from Fukushima. Unbelievable!

For all those up here that are saying that there is no health risks - please listen to Prof. Kodama from Tokyo Uni. <>http://youtu.be/Dlf4gOvzx*Yc

It is time to say to the Japanese politicians - stop lying and hiding. Stop pretending there is no problem. enough is enough.****
