Posted in: Documentary looks at why Japanese parents let young kids walk to school by themselves See in context
I walked to and from school in the 70-80's in Tokyo, We had parents on the corners but not all the time. People say, Japan is a safe place with no crime. But what does that really mean? Really, think about it.
Japan is notorious for chikan, pedophiles and sex crazed men.
As a kid growing up there, I was chased, exposed to regularly-if not weekly and constantly hounded by Japanese men. So, let's put some perspective here.
Maybe from the man's perspective it is "safe". Of course, things have changed and now they have train cars only for women and children.
I am all for independence. I think walking to and from school gave me a lot of freedom. But Japan has a real problem with their sexuality and communication. And they need to bridge this gap and start talking about this problem. I can't imagine what it is like for people who are afraid to talk about it.
