Posted in: Abe says he will seek 'flexible' discussions on constitutional revision See in context

I guess nobody remembers this comment from Trump just a few weeks ago:

"We have a treaty with Japan -- if Japan is attacked, we will fight World War III," the president said. "We will go in and protect them and fight with our lives and with our treasure. We will fight at all costs.

"But if we're attacked, Japan doesn't have to help us at all," he added. "They can watch it on a Sony television, the attack."

That's why! It's not that Japanese doesn't have to help out, their hands are tied with article 9! The most the SDF can do in this case and cheer USA from the sidelines...

This is what happens when your government hides the truth from you. SK didn't mention anything about 1965 until 2005 and you get a lot of brainwashed uninformed people. Same thing in China but at least the Chinese are a little more pragmatic about it.

Posted in: Japan's exports drop for 7th straight month as China-U.S. trade war takes toll See in context

Hate to break it to you all, but Japan will be just fine. For quality of life, they typically rank higher than their neighbors, although most sites use GDP to measure this, which is understandable since other factors are rather subjective. As for economy, I China is taking the hardest hit and SK isn't doing that well. Didn't their central bank just announce a rate cut? Plus neither China or SK had an entire coastline get wiped out either, so this little boycott probably wont have much impact.

Posted in: Japan may take S Korea wartime labor dispute to International Court of Justice: NHK See in context

SK is flat out trying to destroy these company's business. It's one thing to sell off assets for compensation, but taking trademarks and patents and selling them to the highest bidder? Not even China does that. If I were Japan, I would respond with the harshest retaliation possible because after this, it's game over for the companies involved. Imagine if Disney were to lose the rights to Mickey Mouse or apple having their patents for the iPhone taken away and sold? That's pure revenge!

I was stabbed once when I was a teenager

But you were a teenager and using your argument that age matters, this is a completely different mindset compared to a 50 yold adult. And I've been in similar situations as well, but I ran and got away. But, lots of unknowns in the story so difficult to tell what the circumstances were. I still say run if you can and stay in place if you cant...

50 year old man....30's something man

30 year old was 160cm, didn't list the height for the older guy, but didn't know 50 also meant disabled...

but where you going to run to

to the knife section of the store to get my own weapon, or maybe the beer section and crack open two bottles...

I just figure after last month, they would know better, you know, like how one person with a knife was able to subdue four adults and tie them up and then go slash and kill 25 disabled people...

What if he had the knife to your throat, had you cornered or otherwise had some sort of a hold on you? Even if not, there's a good chance he could catch you if you run, especially inside a building. Knives are no less deadly than guns.

If he let the attacker get close enough to get a hold of him, then not much he could have done, but if he had some distance in a grocery store, there are a million different things he could have used to fend off the attacker. Bottles of beer, drink bottles, fruits, cans, etc., all can be used as projectiles.

This is gonna be disastrous on the working population in Japan if it spreads too much. This is just more smoke and mirror on China's part to divert attention from their expansionism in the South China Sea and South Korea is playing the part of their lap dog. China today has become what Imperial Japan was back in the early part of the 20th century and the Koreas are quickly becoming their Manchuria. There's a lot of talk from Japan, but it is just talk and without nukes, which China HAS, there really isn't much to worry about from them. China on the other hand is constantly reinterpreting their boundaries and antagonizing their neighbors. So who are you more worried about? The bully with nukes or old dog that has a loud bark?
