Justin Trudeau legalized weed to reap the extra taxes to the government. Now we can make our NATO commitment. Think of it as blunts for bullets.

Canada will be too close to the nuclear fallout

Take a look at a map and see how close Japan is to North Korea....and which way does the wind blow. North Korea keeps testing/failing missiles.

That is concerning to me.

Sake is basically just water and rice,

No, koji is involved. If you didn't have koji, you would not have the means to convert starch to sugar, then ferment that sugar into alcohol. Then you have Nihon-shu.

The Iranians came to the conclusion that Amiri was instrumental to the lead up and application of Stuxnet virus to their nuclear centrifuge program in 2009-2010.

What better way to send a message to other disgruntled Iranian scientists than executing this guy.

Posted in: Trump ready to complete improbable rise at GOP convention See in context

The Republican Convention is in Ohio. It is an "open carry" state. This means if you are a registered gun license holder, you may carry your loaded pistol in a holster or a loaded long rifle slung over your shoulder in public as long as it is NOT concealed.

BUT....it is against the rules of the Republican Convention to bring tennis balls, back packs or water guns to the Convention.

Anybody see a problem here??

Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks would have jumped into that pile, fought for and recovered his own fumble. That's what true athletes do. You play for every member on your team...not yourself.

Cam Newton put himself before his team.

Posted in: Japanese single malt whisky named world's finest See in context

As has been quoted previously, Japan uses the Scottish spelling of "Whisky". Us Americans apparently had to add the "e" so that we didn't try to pronounce it "whi-skai".

So desu ne.

Go to Ueno and get on the Joetsu Shinkasen.

70 minutes north is Eichigo Uzawa. There is a sake tasting room in the JR Station. It's great because all the sake you taste are available around the corner at the sake shop. Take a picture of the label with your phone and you can find it in the store.

And you can buy small bottles of beer/sake to drink on the train back to Tokyo.

PS..I don't care about museum

I have been drunk very late at night in many parts of Tokyo and have never felt un-safe. I am 5'11'' and 210 lbs with a shaved head and very blue eyes and can speak guttural (very scary) Japanese.

My mother in law is from Niigata. She scares me!!

I do find Japan very safe...except for barking salariman on the train platform late at night.

Nihon-shu is inexpensive in Japan. You can buy great sake for under 1200 yen per bottle. I live in Vancouver now but everytime I come back to Japan I load up on bottles of sake, pay the duty on it and still come out ahead.

Posted in: Japanese becoming increasingly sophisticated wine consumers See in context

This guy only wants your money and he doesn't care what he sells you.

“It’s quite right that Japan should be producing good wine when you consider that every single state in the U.S. is now producing wine."

This doesn't make any sense. The word "terroir" is a culmination of soil, sun, exposure, rain and temperature in a vineyard. What happens in the U.S. has no bearing on a vineyard in Yamanashi or Yamagata.

Notice he doesn't say the word "grapes". Just because they can grow snake berries and make wine in Idaho doesn't mean it's any good.
