Posted in: Which is considered worse, holding your chopsticks the wrong way, or eating noisily? See in context
I'm Japanese and I can tell you one thing.
It's okay to slurp the soup or noodles in Japan but it's NOT okay to chew with open mouth. People think it's disgusting.
And I rarely see a Japanese person chewing with open mouth at restaurants.
I don't know how many of you here have actually been to Japan but
if you have a chance to visit, please look at how people eat.
Not only they eat quietly, but they also "cover their mouth with hand" to make sure you can't see what's inside their mouth.
A lot of people here must be thinking.. All Asians chew with open mouth, but even in Asia, every country has different table manners and before making comments on social media, please do some research first and get yourself educated. Thanks!
