I hate bullying. I also can't stand it when people know its happening but remain passive.

For this poor kid, he did not deserve this. I hope those involved get caught soon.

Previous post I meant "certainly", oops, not "indefinitely".

@edojin, I do marvel at how tech savvy some of the kids are these days. I have 5 primary aged cousins that are streets ahead of me in the tech department compared to what I knew at that same age.

Posted in: Generation Z: Born in the digital age See in context

Making wrong assumptions based on generational generalisations is nothing new. I'm supposed to be GenY. According to descriptions on GenY I was born into a time when amongst other things internet use & computers at home was the norm. That's way off. Most GenY people I know born around my time did not grow up with the internet. Most did not own computers, although a lot of us had Sega Master Systems & Nintendo consoles. At school we had the monochrome style computers (green text on black background) & no internet for most of primary school. High school saw the intro of newer computers & the internet (IE the main search engine). At this point more of us were getting computers but many still did not have internet access. Basic mobile phones didnt even get seen around my school until I was in year 11.

Interestingly I found that rather than being optimistic about the future most of my classmates & I were incredibly cynical (although listening to Metallica's early albums on repeat could do that to anyone). When I piece it all together most of the kids in my year were a lot more like the "whatever generation" (GenX).

Being the last generation to experience the world without internet (not refusing to use internet but simply it not even existing for public use) is probably the "special snowflake definitive thing" for my generation.

Have to say I've met some GenZ's that fit the article explanation here indefinitely but I know lots more that hate facebook, smartphones, etc. Once again, take generational generalisations with a pinch of salt.

So many times when an article comes up about the plight of women in some horrible situation you'll always have the "BUT WHAT ABOUT THE MEN!!!!!!!" posts.

FFS, I'd put up a longer response but some people are beyond help with explaining these issues. Besides spbpb's response pretty much sums up what I would have posted anyhow.

I may have been born well after the 60's but Lesley Gore's music was well known to me growing up as a kid, some real classics that will never die. RIP Lesley.

Sick of this.

Comparing the Crusades to ISIS & somehow using that as a way to downplay what ISIS is doing is just a really bizarre point of view too.

@Strangerland, every historical text in regards to patron saints & religious holidays indicate that St VD is a western European creation.

Anyhow, the whole day no matter where it is held seems more like an obligation or chore rather than an actual expression of love. I'd rather spoil my significant other on a day where they weren't expecting it.

RIP.

People frequently snap with long term neighbourhood disputes. A parking space may not seem like a big deal but prolonged arguing over time can send people over the edge. There have been incidents in the past where seemingly nice ordinary people have shot their neighbours to death due to playing loud music.

There has to be some mental issue with the mother. I can't fathom how someone could kill their own children & still be mentally in order. There has been a brain short circuit somewhere.

I think journos have a tough job but I can't say I respect all of them, look at the lives lost after journo Steven Farrell arrogantly ignored repeated warnings about not entering a certain area. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/afghanistan/6163453/Army-anger-as-soldier-killed-saving-journalist-who-ignored-Taliban-warning.html

Plenty of journos covering the conflicts in the middle east travel with coalition troops, not 100% safe proof but that is the way to go. Not freelancing with zero protection.

Well said @Strangerland & jcapan.

I also agree with people saying that we need to do more research before we travel & be more on guard when we are in other countries (this is coming from someone who likes to travel alone). However, sometimes you can do everything right & still become a victim of crime. My heart goes out to the Japanese woman & I hope she recovers soon.

Japan's government should create a website like Australia's "smartraveller" which alphabetically gives a run down of each country & includes travel warnings of various degrees. It also gives specific advice to women travellers, lone travellers, backpackers, LGBT travellers, couples, etc to cover many situations.

Take a look at the "smartravellers" write up for India, I would not travel to a country with that many red flags. http://www.smartraveller.gov.au/zw-cgi/view/Advice/India

Who the feck cares about a persons employment status &/or what type of job they have. It has zero relevance to how they are as a person or how they should be treated. Plenty of people out there with a great job+poor attitude = still a loser. Life can turn from champagne to s*** very quickly so its best not to look down on people.

I'm two minds about him hitting them, I got slapped as a kid for disobedience & I have to say it worked. But then that's old school. Next time Yoshii just yell straight back at them.

Agree with Brainiac & Phil. The government doesn't legally have the right to stop him but they've still done the right thing in my book considering recent events & the state of things over there.

As for the 26 yr old muslim Japanese ISIS supporter they really should have let him go. Australia is making the same mistake of cancelling passports to keep them in the country. Why keep them in the country? If they stay here they are potential ticking time bombs.

Posted in: IS claims Jordan airstrike kills female U.S. hostage See in context

I read that Kayla's been held by ISIS since August 2013. So given what we know about ISIS's treatment of women I'd say the Jordan airstrikes just gave her an end to her suffering & a more humane death. This is of course if ISIS is telling the truth. If it is then RIP Kayla.

I really wish the "hearts & minds" people, i.e. the aid workers, etc would get the hell out of that region all together. They don't deserve to die but they are sitting ducks. The only people that need to get in there right now are the kind that carry loaded weapons.

“Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently” (RIBSS) is a gutsy group, good interview with one member here https://news.vice.com/article/raqqa-is-being-slaughtered-silently-and-these-guys-are-risking-their-lives-to-document-it

Various sources are also trying to confirm if female Kurd warrior Hebun Sinya has died in battle, very sad if true.

Posted in: Light jogging best for a long life See in context

And if you search the net you'll find research supporting rigourous jogging for long term health. My own family is full of sprinters, rugby players, & other high intensity sports people who have all lived to quite an old age & are in great health. What they did was beyond rigourous jogging.

Personally, as a Rugby player, I prefer sprints to jogging. But that's me. The issue people have with rigourous exercise is they don't consult their doctor. They have no idea what their base level fitness is before starting a program & they start doing high intensity exercise without easing themselves into it - I reckon this is when wear & tear damage occurs. Going from zero to 100 is not good.

@risamamachan. They're both good. They both raise heart rate & burn calories but light jog will do both in less time than the brisk walk. Brisk walk has the advantage of being less stressful for joints. If a person is overweight they'd be better starting with brisk walk, if a person is leaner/lighter then jogging is suitable. If I wasn't playing sport though & I just needed one general activity to keep fit I'd pick Swimming - no joint stress & an all body work out.

Lt Muath Al-Kaseasbeh was an incredibly courageous man. I could not have held myself mentally together like he did. I really feel for his poor family especially his wife.

It has been reported that the Lt was most likely killed by ISIS while Jordan was negotiating with them for the possible prisoner release. Therefore the negotiations turned out to be a complete sham (no surprises from me). I hope the Japanese who said the government needed to negotiate with ISIS & do everything to get them (Kenji/Haruna) back also realise now how futile it is to try & negotiate with these scum bags.

Really sick and tired of these maniacs.
