Which one? Who is telling the truth?

The Japanese government has apologized several times. That was the truth. The apologies are the truth. Trying to now parse them is muddying the truth.

What you hear is not always what is truly going on, even today. The lies started a long time ago and I tend to ignore those who claim to know with certainty the absolute truth about events.

Blah, blah, blah. I have seen this same pattern before. Next you will be claiming the Nazis did not gass anyone in WWII.

Sorry, but you do not seem to have a leg to stand on with this kind of reasoning.

Perhaps the agency would like to keep such specifics a secret.

I find the whole article to be mistaken. All of the supposed lies above can be said honestly and can be true. Has it really come to the point where we decide whether people are lying or not by set phrases? It seems bizarre to me.

Kami ga nagai seichou sasete kudasai. (Please let your hair grow long!)

The reason Japanese women would not spot this one is because they would not understand it.

Japanese women list top 10 lies they can spot the second a guy says them

Looking at the number of people that responded to the survey, this headline should have read "A small group of Japanese women list top 10 lies they can spot the second a guy says them".

It is a sad tragedy. After the first incident, small childrens' access to the area should have been completely blocked.

It's too easy to play keyboard commando and criticize that he should have done this or that but until ALL the facts come out he does deserve due process.

Keyboard commando? People are just giving their opinions, as you are. What the man did was against the animal cruelty laws in Japan and the crime is punishable under the Japanese penal code. In addition, his attempt to illegally dispose of the bodies, after the animals had died, was also illegal under the Japanese penal code.

Talk is cheap...

It sure is. What the man did was not cheap nor insignifiant. It is not this man's job to destroy cats. He should have called the proper authorities if he had a problem. What he did was illegal and was severely compounded by the fact he did this on school property and in front of school children.

I see I got a couple of thumbs down. For what exactly?

Catching drink drivers after accidents happen rather than before.

This sarcastic comment makes little sense. The police do patrols and do road blocks and inspections. However, it is highly unrealistic and critical to expect the police to find every drunk driver before the get involved in an accident. Go ahead and thumb it down, but the only one at fault of the drunk driver. This is a fact. Fortunately no one was hurt.

The prefectural school board said it is deliberating on how to punish the teacher.

As smith said above, 'Fire him.' Also the police should arrest him as they should any individual that would do this kind of thing.

So, what are you waiting for? Tell us what you think Al Qaeda 'really was'?

so they had to create a new one.

Who is 'they'?

These guys really go out of their way to appear crazy.

Appear? I question the sanity of those that slice peoples' heads from their necks full stop.

Now, why not break away from the cheap conspiracy website style of commentary and tell us specifically what you are trying to claim? Are you worried you will lack even more credibility if you are too specific? That is certainly the impression you leave.

However, I agree with Yubaru. The angle makes Ms. Obama seem to tower over the royal couple. Before I clicked on the photo, I thought that maybe the Emperor and Empress were seated and Ms. Obama standing.

JJSullivan,

I see the kind of nebulous conspiracy stuff all over the internet all the time. Let me guess, ISIS was created by:

A) Mossad B) The CIA C) Both because there is a giant borg that is trying to control governments and the media world-wide and everyone that does not believe it are 'sheeple'. Am I close to what you are trying to say?

To help the West achieve their goals in the Middle east (regime change, destabilization, …)

Here is a great example of a nebulous non-specific but informatively sounding snippet. What is 'the West'? What is your specific proof that there is a specific goal to destabilize anything?

They are fake, sort of the new Al Qaeda.

Fake, huh? Tell that to the members of Al Qaeda and ISIS. You see, they think they are real. The killing they have done is real as well.

In short, you have not brought any actual facts into the discussion. You have merely repeated the same tired conspiracy theories that can be seen on cheap websites all over the internet.

Frungy,

You have to be kidding. Why on Jan. 28, 2015 at 11:12AM JST, you had this to say about ISIS:

Bull. You're trying to disassociate the actions of ISIS Muslims from all other Muslims, which is completely ridiculous. If someone chooses to share a label (and I'm not imposing this label on them, they freely choose to adopt it), then they share responsibility for the actions of the group.

So, please do not attempt to take the moral high ground here. You were wrong then and you are still wrong now until you admit you were completely mistaken when you attempted to associate all Muslims (your words) with ISIS.

Could you please post links to stories about such people in the US cheering over the deaths of a dozen civilians? Until you do, your post does not make much sense.

Posted in: 'Haafu' to represent Japan at Miss Universe 2015 See in context

Then why do you have to write as "haafu" when you know very well Japanese people meant "half"?

I really do not understand your point. Japanese people mean 'half' when they say 3:30, but they say 'han'. Different words, even some that sound the same, are used in different ways to mean different things. The term 'half' in English is consider rude by many and so it is more acceptable to use the word 'haafu' to indicate' you are talking about the Japanese word and its meaning rather than the English term that is considered rude.

Personally, I have no problem with this aspect of the winner being mentioned but feel that it need not have extended to being a major part of an article or headline. We should be moving toward a society where it is merely a footnote rather than the story itself.
