Real shame they didn’t check the facts before republishing Shukan Post’s apparent stretching of real events to push their story here and fabricate a sensationalistic headline here:

According to both Asahi and Mainichi Shinbun: “The Metropolitan Police Department said the man died from a disease,” there were no suspicious circumstances and it was a disconnected emergency signaling alarm button that failed to alert station staff that he occupied the facility for more than 30 minutes at 4pm. It was a security guard checking after 11pm that called to the manager’s attention the door remained locked and they found the man unconscious inside.

There was nothing in the real June 2021 story stating the man died on the toilet or from overexertion while attempting to evacuate his bowels.

How about just sticking to facts and presenting examples of where such video evidence like this recent incident worked out in getting justice for both the victim and the accused?

Call to mind the other recent incident in January when a visiting doctor was murdered and 2 professional caregivers were severely injured by the family member of the patient during an in-home visit. The doctor was murdered with a shotgun by the patient’s son and the 2 others held in a standoff with police.

Wishing the victim, a nurse who dedicated their life’s calling to helping others, makes a quick recovery. Seems medical professionals here are no longer respected for their work and now hospitals may not be believed to be safe havens.

Simple. Go back to a conveyor belt system like airport preflight scanners IF corporations can afforded them but stop blaming you suspected made-up “losses” on your customers.

Smoke and Mirrors. - Have used in Kansai supermarkets and appears there are more chances for customer mistakes than actual theft with both an additional scanner in the bagging area next to the register AND at least one staff overseeing the transaction queues.

The weight and number of items in the pre-checkout basket area and the bagging area need to match before you pay.

If the driver pulled away without acknowledging the conductor, the one additional staff responsible for the entire train and all passengers, what other errors is he committing each day?

Understood @letsbereaslitic, it use to be the primary focus of such “Crime” news headlines.  Rarely am I known to defend an editors’ choices here but, on this occasion, they seem too have purposely left the mother’s country of origin out of the headline rather than sensationalizing it.  

It was perhaps included in the body of the story to show there are going to be some significant sensitive issues around handling this case, the child’s current welfare and eventual disposition as well as the possible deportation of the mother. 

Despite the large population of working ‘foreigners’ in Gifu and Aichi, it’s doubtful those prefectures have adequate resources and are prepared to handle the child’s special needs while decisions are being made about her mother.

This story doesn’t mention ‘protective custody’ of the child? The mother’s actions are in no way acceptable.  Regardless of nationality, this is another of Japan’s familes in crisis.

Child abuse in Japan is gradually increasing year upon year and/or people, schools and doctors now feel the legal responsibility to report it more often.

For this child and any others in the home, hopefully, there other family in Japan and local Brazilian community members than can provide for the child’s care.  

In North America, a special guardian ad litem is appointed immediately to act as an advocate, only in the child’s best interest, before any decisions and dispositions by the state and courts are finalized.
