This is not the only point of contention, it is within japan's right to build something on the island. Keeping in mind that china can also invoke history as a support to their bellicose behavior, and senkaku seems to exist between those extremes.

It will be interesting to see Japan in a decade more or two in its current homogenous state...for sure, the current state of things (social/economic/political) seems precarious already..hope there will be some miracles along the way.

That is another great title for the PM as the Chief Historian. Maybe he just want many titles to appear on his resume once he's out of office. Japan have alot more important problems to deal with than this.

asdftgr,
again, you have to look for other cases. why europe had been in peacetime now since that war. America is a far-off country, maybe you need to look more at Asia and what happens here. in other words, your problem is here not there.

asdftgr,
the meeting and visit of a veteran as reported in this article also gives you an hint that America do care and to an extent also repent for what had happened during WWII. that is kinda incomparable if you look at Japan's case.

on the other hand, it happens, that Japan brought a scourge upon millions in the neighbourhood. do you recognise those? or do you think they should be forgotten for they don't deserve to be heard?
i do agree that killing innocent is the most hideous crime, but, stories have to be seen from all sides. japan will only bring herself to shame if she perpetuate her own versions of events without any regard to others. don't u see why war in europe had already been laid to books and not talked about between govn'ts or lay people?
as i said, it will really take a very long time to put pieces together with the prevailing of such kinds of ideas here.

education here is quite a problem i think. the ranking of universities is no joke. western countries are not accepting refugees because of mere charity, but out of enlightened self-interest. when u cultivate your leaders/citizens in the bosom of an undynamic (education) system, the result can be dull and self-contradictory to the personal and to the community.

Muslims should migrate to Muslim countries.
there is an advantage of having muslims in western countries to give them the opportunity to things that they cannot do in their own countries, like renouncing their faith or converting to new ideas without the threat of being murdered.

i think the blame is not entirely on Abe, although he should bear some responsibilities and failures from his part as a leader. the third arrow was missing, as some or most of its key areas is 'foreign' or 'foreigners' related. the fear (and uncertainty) of the outside is well and alive in society and govn't policies are nothing more than the reflection of what happens in the society at large.

it is quite difficult to avert the problem as believers themselves have to play a greater role. even condemning the disaster and horrific acts is not going to somehow eradicate extremism.
it will be good if there can some changes to the idelogies they perpetuate, from within the faith community itself, as it is a solid threat not only to non-believers but even to themselves.

The root cause of this that won't end soon or even in centuries is the ideology behind that believers worship. I can only see changing the ideology/text as the only solution, but it is just impossible to see that to happen.

life was taken means this is serious problem, and the kid left a note seems to be honest enough to reveal his small world that has been unseen by no others but himself. is it compulsory here for all kids to attend sport clubs? how about making it optional for those who just don't want to take part. and parents also need to spend some time with their kids and to listen more to their stories.

Isolationist Japan is best.
Hosting international events like the world cup does not mean isolation. Or taking resources (maybe oil) from elsewhere (maybe the middle east)...Perhaps it can only fit that definition if u want to benefit from the world system but don't want to share their concerns.
