I am just wondering who paid for the sushi. Possibly the Japanese tax-payer paid for the entertainment, correct?

I wish the architect had designed something that reflects more of Japanese traditional motifs like the one designed by Christopher Alexander. The size of this building is out of scale and has nothing to do with its surroundings. Any building designer should have sensitivity to the size and shape of a building since they affect a human's mind and health. This is anti-cultural monster in Osaka.

Posted in: Malaysia bans Ultraman book over use of Allah See in context

"Malaysia has banned an Ultraman comic book because it uses the word 'Allah' to describe the Japanese action hero." I understand why. Although Ultraman may be an action hero, it is a comic figure. Comic is an untruthful story. You must respect other's religion, culture and the social environment. The Malaysia government may be even considering the safety of the Japanese people who live in Malaysia. Religion is a very complicate issue and can divide a country or people within, or even kill each other for a religion. The government's extraordinary caution only saves the country and the people both in Malaysia and from Japan. I wish those who comment on this site to be more careful what you write. Your opinion can even trigger violence against the Japanese in the country. Many Japanese have very little understanding about what the passion for a religion will do.

Posted in: Plight of minority youths in U.S. an 'outrage': Obama See in context

“These statistics should break our hearts, and they should compel us to act,” Obama said. First, we don't know where the statistics came from and how the information was gathered. There are many poor Chinese, Japanese, Korean and many other minorities in the United States. But they do just fine because they work very hard to be successful. That is because their parents teach them to be good. I do not wish to stereotype, however, Blacks and Hispanics (although not all) tend to be lack of self-discipline. Have you heard the story about a Hispanic lawyer who has been living illegally in California for all his life and now is asking California to allow him become a lawyer? The California Supreme court plans to help him to become "a lawyer. " This story is insane. But that is what Hispanics ask to the US government. AND the US government TRIES to help them, as usual. Their "wish" list is endless.

ifd66: "There seems to be a basic infringement of human rights here, let alone privacy." This comment exhibits the "American" cultural influence to Japan. 1 out 5 Americans now has small and large tatto hidden or displayed in America. Those who are not Japanese don't know the significance of the bad image of the persons with tatto. A basic infringement of human rights! ?? Privacy!?? This person doesn't know what he/she is talking about. Don't just use the words you know. Human rights and privacy come with responsibility to the society first. When you talk about "human rights" and "privacy", you must also talk about respect to other's feelings.

"When Santa arrived at a school hosting children who fled Japan's nuclear disaster, he brought the usual presents, but he also bore something a little less ordinary -gourmet Christmas dinner." All the events and ideas are great, but I wish they didn't call it "Christmas" dinner. Christmas has nothing to do with Japanese culture, Japanese government, Japanese kids, and Japanese schools. I wish they called it something more deeply related to the traditional Japanese culture. The name is so fake and it just promotes American commercialism.

Additional comment: Probably I should have said, "Why the U.S. House of Representatives have anything to do with this private matter of the Americans? AND, WHY MUST THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT GET INVOLVED WITH THIS PRIVATE MATTER. This may be just another "political" agenda against Japan. Beside, my feeling is that if this American father was a reasonably nice person, the Japanese mother would not have removed her child from him. I would imagine that the mother would have wanted her child to be close to the American father for the child's sake. There must be a significant reason why she ended up separating her child from the American father.

The Japanese who live in the United States don't receive any legal assistance on a private matter (even it is a human right issue) from the U. S. government. Why the U.S. House of Representatives have anything to do with this private matter of the Americans? This may be just another "political" agenda against Japan.

"The true meaning of Japanese Christmas" -commercialism- YES, EXACTLY!! It is not just in Japan, but it is also in America where started Christmas promotion for money making events. The red/white concept came from Coca-cola company. We are all fool! Read this (http://www.coca-colacompany.com/holidays/the-true-history-of-the-modern-day-santa-claus). Even American don't know much about this. The Japanese are foolishly dancing with American's false tradition. "The Coca-Cola Company began its Christmas advertising in the 1920s with shopping-related ads in magazines like The Saturday Evening Post. The first Santa ads used a strict-looking Claus, in the vein of Thomas Nast. In 1930, artist Fred Mizen painted a department-store Santa in a crowd drinking a bottle of Coke. The ad featured the world's largest soda fountain, which was located in the department store Famous Barr Co. in St. Louis, Mo. "

I agree with Cleo "it's just a statement of historical fact." What it was was what it was. It is very important to inform the viewer the truth of the fact rather than changing the fact or misleading the fact. It is very important for all the Japanese to know that we, Japanese, were also bad people once. I hope "once."

Ceate new employment for 10,000 people?! It may create 10,000 new jobs but it also creates 100,000 gamblers. It just adds another toxic to the society. Imitating always what America does is not good as you already know. You see what America now became. Have you been to Las Vegas? If you have been there once, you would know that the place is not for intelligent people. I was curious and I was there once. Once was enough for me. The lights were on all night! The lights shined in the middle of the desert. What a waste! Some people think the lights are beautiful but I did not. The view was so unreal and strange. The whole things are so unnatural and anti-environmental.

I was very surprised that people seem to disagree with what CH3CHOO wrote. CH3CHOOct. 11, 2013 - 09:05AM JST wrote: "As usual, the best interest of child is ignored by US law makers. Why should the child automatically be deported to the US, regardless of the individual situation of the child?" I agree why the child automatically be deported to the U.S. For the best interest of the child, I highly recommend the little one to stay in Japan. Who wants to send the kid to the U.S.? There are so many kids who are killed, beaten, or sexually abused in the U.S. You know 20 six-year kids died by a gunman just 9 months ago. Has it any change in the gun control in the US? Nothing!! For the kids being in Japan is so much better. Besides, the U.S. government do not help the Japanese citizens who are in trouble in the law in the United States, why the U.S. government can enforce the Japanese government to help the American citizens in the private level? If that is what the U.S. desired, the U.S and Japan should have a "mutual" agreement in the law assistance. Why always must Japan say "Yes"? Japan should say "NO" to protect their own people, the Japanese.

I am happy to hear that "a Japanese court on Monday ordered a group of anti-Korean activists to pay a Korean school in Kyoto 12 million yen. " The people who hate Koreans should read the Japanese history. We are almost like a family. The Japanese and Koreans are so culturally similar. I want to tell the people who hate the Koreans in Japan should think how many Japanse live in the foreign countries (outside of Japan): millions! Maybe your friends or relatives are living in another countries right now. Do you want the people of the foreign countries to hate or mistreat your friends or relatvies? If the Japanese in Japan mistreat the non-Japanese in Japan, the same things would happen to the Japanese in the other countries. I live in the San Francisco Bay area. The Japanese and Korean are happy together here.

The persons who constantly critisize what the Japanese government did, or do, should think what you, youself, did to help the others today. It is easy to critisize others.

Dear the Japanese Government and the people in Japan: I told you this already in the previous article. "Do not let the American trade rep. push you!" They are good at doing so. Mr. Froman states, "Japan's success came at the expense of others." That is not true. Japan's success came from the Japanese people's honesty and hard working in their production. The way Mr. Froman states is as usual. American industries always blame their own flaw to someone else. That is why they have not been able to grow themselve to produce better products. The people in America and, in fact, even the local government itself started promoting bicycling and dramatically REDUCING the size of the road for cars in order to provide a new bicycle lane. The American society in general is trying to discourage people using an automobile. The American car industry is worrying about the America's GREEN movement. The American health insurance company also worry about the prospective of their business because Obama Healthcare will start from 2014. The Japanese do not have to give any space to the American industry that Americans themselves are trying to reduce or remove entirely. Do not let Mr. Froman fool you!

I feel so so sorry for the owner of the pet. I lost my pet (13 years old Chihuahua) recently. I know how she feels. It is a very painful experience-that is something the people who have never owned a dog cannot imagine. The dog was really part of her life. However, I sincerely feel that the family should have left the dog at home under someone's care. The dog doesn't understand the family's vacation. It is a selfish mind of the dog owner to bring the dog to everywhere he/she goes just because the owner wants to be with the dog. It is more safe for the dog to be home. In any case, I am very sorry. I made a mistake myself. I feel that I could have saved my dog from dying. We all learn by a mistake. All you can do at this point is to keep the memory of the beloved dog and tell the dog every night that you loved her/him so much.

Posted in: Japan, U.S. hold TPP talks on autos, insurance See in context

Dear the Japanese government and all: Never let American politicians push you into agreeing anything. The American politicians are good at doing so. The American politicians work for the greedy industry, but not for the people. The American insurance companies are almost like a criminal. They would not cover the people who are ill. Kaiser's insurance, for instance, will not cover you if you have any history of illness. I had breast cancer almost 10 years ago and it had been cured completely. When I applied Kaiser, they told me that they would not provide me with any insurance because I had breast cancer in the past. American insurance is for healthy people so that the company can make a lot of money. Once you become sick, they will tell you all kinds of reasons to deny your coverage. They provide you with a 100 pages fine printed policy and you are supposed to read them and understand all. If you miss anything, then, they tell you that it's been written in the policy. Don't let them push you. Sincerely.

Here again. Do American Automakers know that even Americans do not want to buy the American cars? I have seen 4 of 5 cars that are parked on a street are made in Japan: HONDA or TOYOTA. They must convince first their own people (Americans) if they want the Japanese to buy the American cars. Self-discipline first! like Gandhi. That is what America is missing as usual.
