this is quite regrettable and sad, but I think a Heimlich maneuver would have helped save the child.

safety first, this structural engineering inspector was visually checking the structures to make sure they are earthquake/typhoon proof and do not pose any danger to the naked people using the facility at any given time lol...

Posted in: Japan to partially lift ban on ride-hailing services from April See in context

in the end I think autonomous driving will take over, in the long run specially for rural areas. Taxi drivers are also quite aged and the elderly should not be driving either so...

Posted in: SDF exercise suspended after member shows middle finger to reporters See in context

I also did not know showing the middle finger meant anything in Japan. Moreover suspending a whole day of work for a finger gesture that causes no physical harm to anyone is excessive in my view. Some word reprimand would have sufficed.

lol good point there Moonraker xD

cutting corners on insulation is not the best building policy...perhaps the strong focus on earthquake resistance has made them pay less attention to these other needs...

Posted in: Over 40% of workers in Japan sleep less than 6 hours per night: survey See in context

I especially hate it when my Japanese acquaintances finish work late every day and force themselves to go early on time every day in the morning (even if there are no urgent matters to deal with at that time) despite the fact that they have the option to use flex time in their companies. It is truly a violation of rights in my eyes, but I believe the workers themselves have to step up and put a halt on this abuse.

Sintering is a process in which particles of a material are heated to a point where they stick together and form a solid mass. This is often done to create or shape objects from powdery or granular materials, like ceramics or metals, by heating them until they fuse together without melting into a liquid. Sintering helps improve the strength and durability of the material and can be used in various manufacturing processes, such as making ceramics, metal parts, or even 3D-printed objects.

Posted in: Bullet train maneuvers See in context

it surprises me a lot that they allow this in a country with such high safety standards, maybe they want to show how stable bullet train rides are :)

China banning food imports feels quite ironic...they are not precisely known for producing very safe food are they?

Akaike-san, rare case of a politician who is truly concerned with the people he represents. I hope he is honored in the way he greatly deserves.

Posted in: High school student arrested for extorting money from woman by threatening to release video of her naked See in context

wow...I wonder how he convinced her for apologizing and all that after she decided to sever ties with him. In my experience here whenever any women decided to cut ties with me/block me there was no divine power that would make them change their minds ever after. This kid must have a pretty threatening vibe on him or who knows what...

this is so tragic and rare in a country with such high labor safety standards. Working in high places is something I have never ever wanted to do. I feel truly sorry for his family's loss.

Posted in: City in Nagano offers super cheap taxi fares to seniors who give up licenses, and to disabled people See in context

wow finally something that might help with the transport crisis for senior citizens in the countryside...now taxi drivers are also in quite an advanced age as well...in the end I think having fully automated vehicles will be the only solution for these rural areas.

Posted in: Hot spring baths block Japan's geothermal potential See in context

this is just a strong indicator that there is a big interest in keeping Japan resource and energy-dependent on purpose for all its existence. Protecting onsen industry from something that is not even proved to damage them (think of the geothermal plant as another nearby onsen or onsens) is just a mere excuse I think. There is a bigger reason behind all this. Besides providing many gigawatts of power, exploiting geothermal may even ease the tectonic pressure in order to prevent big earthquakes they say, however all these benefits mean nothing against having a warm bath do they?
