OK, so none of you come from a country with high UV/problems with the sun? In my country, about 1/2 the swimmers would be wearing the shirts (or "rash vests" as we call them) and the parents who let their kids out without them would be frowned on - no one needs to get sunburnt and sunscreen is not 100% effective. slip, slop, slap and wrap! Totally normal

I am sick of men on this site blaming the VICTIMS for wearing inappropriate clothing every time! Lots of the girls dress like tarts, yes, but they do not wield any magical powers to make men do stupid or immoral things. Show a bit of self-control please.

Wow - infringement action is going to cost a fortune. Must be worth a lot & Kodak must have a good case to run with (a "slam dunk" as quoted).

I'm sure all those childless couples will have really interesting and fulfilling lives in their old age - I see how much joy my Grandmother takes out of her children and grandchildren, never mind that her husband is a miserable bastard - how boring and lack lustre for her if she had chosen never to have kids when younger! Having kids should be a priority for personal reasons as well, not just to top up the population.

Everton, funny how you pretend to know Australia and hold up the "rowdy pubs" in George street as an example of your expert knowledge. Pretty tame pubs in my view!!

Posted in: KFC pulls Australian ad over U.S. racism complaints See in context

What a joke!

If you don't understand cricket, or the fact that KFC is the main sponsor of Australian cricket and runs one nauseating cheesy cricket ad after another about 3 times per every commercial break during the cricket season, then go ahead and be offended and look like an idiot.

The reason why West Indies is featured? They are one of the strongest cricketing nations in the world and Australia is touring. The reason they hand the crowd fried chicken? Duh, it's KFC....they are eating fried chicken in every single one of their cricket ads. And as Betting mentioned, spectators at cricket matches in the West Indies really do know how to party.

Considering USA can't even figure out how to hold a cricket bat, let alone work out the rules, clearly this ad has NO relevance and was not going to be aired there anyway. KFC probably agreed to stop the ad because it has already run its 3,000 times and they have like 6 new commercials ready to go anyway.

Incidentally, one of the leading brands of cheese in Australia is COON cheese - supposedly the surname of the original cheese maker - it has no racist connotation in Australia and therefore it is not considered offensive.

That's awful - I don't know what his punishment will be but surely he/his parents are gonna have to pay a lot of isharyou to the girl's family? If a girl's face is messed up they can order a huge compensation for her future suffering - lots more than if a guy's face gets messed up Flatearther -

I'm aware of parenting skills back home, too, but could honestly care less seeing as how I don't live there. How did this expression get so misused? If you "could care less" then it means that you care somewhat. The correct expression is "couldn't care less". Ta.

Dare I say it- she is a more horrific prospect to me as US president than Bush is.

You've done so much with your degree, What State are you Governor of?

Excuse me, Sailwind, without having a clue what I do - personally I would want someone I feel is smarter and more qualified than I am to be my leader and make decisions for the country, not someone on my level or of uncertain ability. And my comment was more to her extremely right wing fundamental beliefs that I cannot believe a nation (or at least half of one) can support in a leader.

Roller sports would be as silly as BMX racing - and it's hard enough already getting fair judging on artistic/subjective sports. Flammenwerfer- I agree and if 7s was an Olympic sport you can guarantee more countries would put up teams than those who have participated in the (expensive) world circuit. Think PNG, Wales, some more African nations...

ONLY IN AMERICA would anyone even dream of a crazy woman who knows probably less about diplomacy than I or any of the other millions of political studies/international relations graduates in world, believes in outrageous things such as god created the world and thinks gay people are "sick", ever being elected as the leader of the nation.

Hey don't be so tough about the dog cosmetics thing - could just be lost in translation, especially since in English "cosmetics" is defined as any product to care or beautify the skin, scalp or hair. So could just be a nice doggy shampoo range.

Posted in: Bush says U.S. election sets example for budding democracies See in context

Bush said that the spirited campaign between McCain and front-runner, Democratic Sen Barack Obama, reflects a political competition that is an “essential part of a healthy democracy.”

I see it as the unfortunate and embarrassing part of USA democracy, but OK

ImperiumMondi -

i don't think that is what bush was saying.

Reading back, I suppose he didn't say it outright. But he did label it as "one of America’s greatest strengths.”

I am going to elaborate - off the racism comment. Still mystified how USA's election system is a "representative democracy". Only two people have a shot, those in States traditionally pro-Republican or pro-Democratic who want to vote the other way know their vote in hopeless and if you don't like either candidate, then you are really just out of luck. At least in my country, if you don't like the big guys, there are lots of little guys in there you can pick from AND it is almost guaranteed that some of the little guys will then get in to parliament and actually represent their voters. (case in point: Green party/Maori party). Granted, USA's system is nowhere near the worst hey it beats Zimbabwe's elections hands down - BUT it surely isn't a model the world should adopt.

With Iranian sensitivities in mind, the Iraqis also want an explicit ban on the U.S. using Iraqi territory to attack its neighbors — a demand that was reinforced by last Sunday’s U.S. raid against a suspected al-Qaida hideout in Syria.

I think this is only fair.

YangYong - in a country with the death penalty, letting them live is letting them off the hook. And its difficult in this case (no win situation) if they die, they become martyrs. If they live, they still have plenty of admirers. Scum.

You know how they still publish the lyrics on the cover books for Japanese CDs - reading whilst listening, great way to learn Japanese/kanji. Although pity the lyrics are usually nothing special.
