We talk about sexual abuse as if it's unique in Japan. I was 12 when I was sexually assaulted in Japan. Took me 40 years to finally speak about it. Let's focus on the sexual crimes that happen in Japan. Between the chikans and the cops who still don't take women seriously, the focus on Japan is seriously necessary.

Oh, and in Japan? The women saying "iya~"??? Not a clue whether that's a yes or a no. You'll have to work that out on your own. I'm pretty comfortable saying most western women would have no problem believing this about RB.

If you don't live in the US and and you've lived outside the US for a long time, then no, perhaps you aren't aware of the undercurrent that it's addressing. The buzz in the US is a thing. For a reason.

That, and the fact that it's directed by a woman and has grossed over a billion USD is also a thing whether you like Barbie or not.

Japan still sends a man to a international conference discussing the rights of women. It's an open secret misogyny is in full bloom in Japan. And the government can't figure out how to get more women to marry and have babies.

This city was flattened in the 2011 tsunami. People died here. A LOT of people died here. Focus on that. Not the vehicle.
