Andypandy; Tokyo is only a small part of Japan. Even if the worst happens in Fukushima we are unlikely to be affected in West Japan. With Kyoto, Osaka, Nara and Kobe all quite close to each other, there is lots to do here.

bicultural; I know what it is called, and soccer is an abbreviation of association, that is what i was trying to explain to Cruzcontrol who claims that the name football is called because the ball is a foot long.

Moderator: Readers back on topic please. The subject is the Short Shorts Film Festival.

CruzControl; the official name is football, soccetr was a later slang term. In Britain it is know as football.

I had a teacher at school who said i should be very worried about finding employment due to my looks. He said i would have a better chance attending interviews wearing a pink balaclava and a yello leotard. Maybe this is why i am self employed.

japanhand; No you are wrong , very wrong. FBC charges too much, i used to use them a lot but instead of evolving and being more competitive they became more expensive. They have a good selection sure and have good service, but i will not pay those prices and it isn't a case of buying inferior products due to lack of cash. These days with Costco and many others having a good selection of import items (including better quality European items)at far cheper prices, why shop there?

I guess it can be usefull if you cannot get to other places due to your location. Chuck will be a great guy to those who fill his bank account as he aint going to bite the hand that feeds.

Zenny1; Costco also has good stuff for the home and family. Some good oils for cooking and lots of European cheeses. You need a lot of storage space liek big fridge or freezer though as most of this stuff is in big packets/portions.

FBC may have more stuff but the money i save by shopping around can be spent on the family and the savings are pretty high.

keika1628; you think if i don't like FBC prices that i am penniless? Then think again. I choose the best options for what i want. Used to be FBC but unlike other retailers like Costco and Aeon they have not reduced any prices of imported goods due to the savings they make due to the stringth of the Yen.

They do have great customer service, but that does not justify some of the prices.

Posted in: New magazine SAMURAI.JP launches in search of Japan’s lost values See in context

Japanese people have a strange image of how their country is viewed and what it is and stands for. I seem to either hear people who think it is a Utopia, safest in the world etc. You also see others like this chap who feel the need to show how great Japan and it's history, culture etc are but for some reason seem to think the world needs educating in the matter. Rarely do Japanese dislike their country, in my experienece it is people who have had a hard life or who have lived abroad ro some time.

This magazine could be interesting but i can imagine a lot of excessive pro Japan spin and could well be out of touch wit reality, bit like Fox News in the US.

I bought a refrigerated product at Costco for 485 Yen last year (Costco own brand). Costco had sourced this product, sent to Japan and after overheads had charged this price. At the same time FBC had the same product, obviously bought in Costco nearby (25 min drive from their HQ) and they were charging over 1,100 Yen.

LOst faith in FBC a while back. Theyt are pretty big but charge more than otehrs that are a small concern. They increased prices when Dollar was strong andeven added extra to the invoices but now there is no reductuion in prices.

I run businesess and when i get cheaper i pass on at least some of my savings to the customer. I understand there are overheads , but the prices are unforgivable. A small amount of people are getting very rich probably because of expats on company credit cards whilst many could not afford the prices.

Better option is Costco, Grand Marche or one of the liquor stores selling import stuff.

Posted in: Fukushima's No. 1 reactor building radiation level rises See in context

What is wrong with you people? Stop making mountains out of molehills. I have learnt from experts here on JT that this is no big deal. In fact radiation can be pretty good, it can prevent e coli and such in foods, how great is that?

Tepco are great and are doing their best, we owe them our lives for their integrity and high safety standards.

It's a bit of radiation big deal, i am going sunbathing near the plant with klein2 tomorrow and we won't die and nor will you. Everything is under control and you get more radiation from eating 1,742 bananas a day, so stop fear mongering people.

gogogo; The point is to make the music with the old machine. Many European electronic bands have gond back to using their orginal synths lately as they feel the sound tehy are trying to create it better using them.

Nothing wromng with new equipment but it is always better to have variety and the "perfect" sound of modern electronic music is not to everyones taste.

The poor man must have mental health issues. He needs some therapy and some meds, he will be fine given the right treatment. Best thing is to put it all in the past. Pretend it never happened.

Now ay would i ever hand over all my cash to my wife. She gets money from me weekly and that is fine. My brother in law hands over allhis wages and gets 500 Yen a day pocket money for his lunch and has to ask if he can have monry for stuff like beers. That is no way for a working man to live.

Mr Brand is a vile egotistical pig. After the disgusting way he played a "joke" on Andrew sachs re his grand daughter, how can anyone employ him? He mocks ex girlfriends and thei families in print and thinks itis all a joke. He has no empathy for others and need a good few punches in the face. He is all that is wrong with modern celebrity culture.

Antonios M ; I agree far too US focused. A complaint i have made to JT many times. How about John Prescott, David Blunkett or the many French bigwigs?

Many competative people will live their whole lives putting their interests first and when they find fame they think they are above the nations laws and moral laws. Many get to the top through being ruthless and having a lack of compassion for others.

MYRB2001; Not anti capitalism, but not a fan. Certainly anti celebrity culture which helps create people like Beiber.

Still alot of good bands about making original music that don't sell their souls for Dollars.

So called talent is right about him. if he was an overweight spotty kid, their would be no interest in him.

Most probably undiagnosed mental health problems fora while.Lots of us think we have true love when young and only realise what it really means when we realise the real meaning of the word.

You will have a high amount of suicides if mental health issues are a taboo subject.

This is something that needs to be remembered and these things are important to some.

There are many suffering mental health issues due to this disaster. We have to understand that some of these people are now severely damaged maybe for life and we have to take this into consideration in our posts. It is very sad as this whole disaster has been , let us hope that those who are still suffering get better soon.
