By no stretch of the imagination is 'Japanese' a race, despite what many people (predominantly themselves Japanese) may wish to believe.

wfw - Have you SEEN them protest? There's no bringing them in line through reasoned discussion because they don't know HOW to think critically. To them, if it's Japanese it's good, just and right, if it's not Japanese (and far-right), it's racist/Japan-bashing and needs to be removed from the country or the planet.

Criticizing a Japanese person, a government policy or even a cultural practice is not criticism of all Japanese people, it is not racism, it is not Japan-bashing or bigotry. The problem with the nationalists is that they can't tell the difference.

On the contrary Zenny. If Australia or New Zealand had been found to be bribing countries with prostitutes it WOULD make the news in either country, and I sure bet that YOU wouldn't then be arguing that it was no big deal.

Some of the justifications here are just great. "Everyone does it", "The anti-whalers would've done it if they'd thought of it sooner", "It's the small nations fault for accepting the bribes". I'm sure you'd be this understanding if the shoe was on the other foot.

Sounds like an biased account of Japanese political tradition.

Nationalism is so ugly, easily the most depressing and unpleasant aspect of Japan. No, I won't see the film, but only because I don't have the stomach for it.

I wonder, was such a fair, rational article published in Japanese? Much of the anti-Australian propaganda that I see coming out of Japan (often in retaliation to anti-whaling messages) includes very inflammatory and far from the mark statements about kangaroo(/dingo) culls, as if there was a real comparison to be made. I've wondered whether dispassionate, objective information about the necessity of kangaroo culls isn't published in Japan, or just intentionally ignored by propagandists.

I keep forgetting that Australia has a baseball team. The only time I can ever remember seeing baseball on television was one match during the Beijing Olympics.

Does anyone know how the match was reported in Japan?

Japan definitely played a stronger game than Australia. Tsuzuki didn't break a sweat. But as usual Japan passed well but didn't know what the do with the ball at the Australian goal, and let too many chances slip by them. Still, you had to feel for Okada towards the end of the match. A tie was still a relief, we're still comfortably on top.
