Having a negative test result from within 72 hours before departure, another negative test result upon arrival in Japan and 14 days quarantine starting the day after arrival in Japan have been the requirements for some time now. The numbers continue increasing and so these requirements are not helping. Start vaccinating people now - today, not wait until February.

Posted in: Whether a country or region is doing enough testing for the coronavirus should be assessed based on the positivity rate and not on the number of tests. The positivity rate for Tokyo is now over 6%, so we should be doing a bit more testing to bring the number down. See in context

Here's me thinking that vaccinations may get us out of this mess when the real answer is to test more healthy people to bring the percentage of positive results down.

Truly ridiculous.

Vaccinations are already a requirement for travelling to some countries - the obvious one being Yellow Fever. Having to have a Covid-19 vaccination to travel internationally is, in my opinion, a good idea.

However, I am not so sure about the "Meanwhile, more technology firms are rolling out digital certificates that can be accessed on smartphones by employers, airlines and others, as proof of vaccination is sought not just to travel, but also to work or take part in other activities.", as the other activities requires clarification.

I don't understand why there are some many negatives for shogun36's post, "One can only hope she is found unharmed."

Is it that you hope that she is not found or is that you hope she is found having been harmed?

I hope that her loved ones do not see your negatives.

Been tested twice. Once by a throat and nose swab and another by saliva. As expected, both were negative.

This story really is not making a lot of sense to me. I returned here on Saturday (5th) and the free bus was available then. How can it be starting on the 16th when it is already available? In any case, I am bit confused behind the logic of not allowing returning people to use public transport when they must have received negative test results from up to 72 hours before their departure and then another negative result immediately after arriving. They won't get on the plane without a negative test result from up to 72 hours before the flight and then won't even get as far as immigration when they arrive here if they don't test negative when being tested immediately after getting off the plane. It strikes me that the very people we are sure do not have Covid-19 are not being allowed to travel on public transport whereas anyone who has not been tested can. If I were a bus driver, I would certainly want to be driving that free bus to the hotels, where I know for sure everybody on it has just tested negative for Covid-19 rather than another bus.
