I don't have the stats, but I'm willing to bet that most people in the US murdered each year are murdered by Christian men. Are we gonna ban Christians, men? Americans are getting all worked up over something which when compared to traffic, gun, cancer etc deaths is trivial in amount. Stop living in fear

Posted in: Husbands on receiving end of domestic abuse from wives See in context

I witnessed a Japanese female boss slap and kick a male subordinate while verbally abusing him in the office. Same-sex couples also face this scourge. It's often under reported because same-sex victims feel hesitant to go to the police at times. No matter the type of couple, or gender of the abuser, they need to face the consequences of their behavior. Being a male or female as the abuser has nothing to do with this.

Good riddance. I am pretty sick of these American crime shows spreading false information and paranoia, although Law and Order was much worse than CSI.

Regarding Law and Order SVU, many of the episodes were based on real-life cases. What kind of "false information and paranoia" are you describing?

The Springboks lost the game partly because they underestimated Japan - as everyone else did before the game. Scotland will field more A-team players.

Totally incorrect. They fielded their top A team. Most capped lineup in their history. 880 caps

@brainiac They don't. They just keep trying different numbers until they hit a target. If the receiver doesn't have a son they will just hang up. They don't mention any company names either, just that they need the money for work

@Elizabeth Heath I flew to London to see Kate Bush last year, but I'll also go see Madonna. I really don't think there's a need to slam performers who have enduring popularity. Obviously many people still like them. I respect any artist who has such longevity and worldwide popularity. Saw the Stones, McCartney, Bowie, Springsteen, U2, Michael Jackson, The Police etc not necessarily that I was a huge fan, but I think their music will last a long time and I wanted to experience what they offered live

Although I disagree, I can understand if Japanese people feel hesitant about allowing refugees into the country, however I'm assuming most of the commenters here are foreigners living in Japan. How on earth can you justify being in Japan and yet being against these refugees being allowed in? I don't think any of us can hold a candle to the horrors that these people have experienced. So you got your space in cozy little Japan now let's shut the door

Yes. Yesterday some people were posting how this was "nothing" and an overreaction. There ARE people who live in other parts of the country, and the news doesn't just revolve around the commenters. If you didn't have a major problem then hurray for you, but leave the scorn out of it

Well for those of you trying to defend Japan by saying "what about China", according to Wikipedia, China has a total refugee population of 301,018 (4564 natives per refugee), while Japan has 2,649 (48165 natives per refugee) and the USA has 264,763 (1215 natives per refugee). So your argument of China needs to do more first before Japan falls flat

There is a 1 month free trial, no obligations, so people with questions should just try it. You can even try VPN service for free too. Nothing to lose

Not worth your time.

That may be true of Japanese Netflix, but considering you can access Netflix in the USA Australia, Canada, UK, several other countries, all with the same account it's great

VPN has given me no problems in Japan. It does slow down the connection, but with it being ultrafast here to begin with, it's never affected me. I use a paid VPN so maybe that's better than a free one

With a Netflix account and a VPN like tunnel bear you can watch any region's Netflix. My American account works just fine watching Japanese Netflix for no additional cost. The reverse is true too, so if you don't like the Japanese Netflix offerings just switch to US, Canada, Aus, UK etc with a VPN

It seems a major part of stress is this almost obligation to have kids after you're married. My partner and I are DINKS ( double income no kids) and it's awesome. Separate jobs and schedules so we don't spend every waking hour together, and plenty of income to enjoy the time we do have together. Kids would just get in the way.

If you really love kids then great, but It really feel that many people who have kids just did it because they are somehow expected to have kids after marriage

Posted in: Corporates raise LGBT flag in Japan See in context

Oh my goodness here we go again. One of the ways we are discriminated against in some Japanese companies is that we pay every month out of our salaries a small amount of money, as do all employees. This money is then used to give a monetary present to employees when they get married. We should be able to benefit from this when we get legally married as well.

Personally I am out and have never had any problems with coworkers. I think the lack of Christian "values" helps. Some people are curious and ask questions etc. but in a sense of wanting to be educated rather than moralistically condemning me like some people on this site seem to do.

It seems the people who are most vehemently against LGBT are the least knowledgeable. Maybe if you actually knew people who are LGBT you'll realize that we are just every day people, born with a natural attraction for the same gender just as you were born with a natural attraction for the opposite gender. Nothing strange about us.

Japanese businesses will realize, as businesses in the US did, that many LGBT couples have large disposable incomes, and are very brand loyal when it comes to friendly companies and services. 99% of my friends here in Japan use Softbank precisely because of their friendly attitude. They have been sponsors for LGBT events in Tokyo for several years. It doesn't go unnoticed

How do unemployed people survive in Japan? I have now read several news reports where unemployed people commit crimes. They have internet, phones, cars and apartments according to the articles.

In this case, married to a Japanese woman, and living off her ¥

Yes to Zichi above. The San Francisco Bay Bridge went from $1.5 billion to $6.4 billion, and opened 10 years after the projected date. In addition, cables and supports are now starting to to show signs of corrosion even though it has been open only 2 years. Was supposed to last 150 years and withstand a huge quake, but now needs more $ thrown at it just to keep it from falling apart by itself! Save money on the stadium, but make sure the money spent is spent well.

@Wc626 Regardless of the US past prowess, it will be difficult for them with the 2 starters out, especially Rapinoe, and they haven't looked very good in offense so far. Japan doing well. I'm hoping for a Japan US final. Win win situation as far as I'm concerned.

@Wc626 I guess you are not so familiar with women's soccer. The world DOES expect us to win. The U.S. team is perhaps the most successful in international women's soccer, winning two Women's World Cup titles and four Olympic women's gold medals. It was ranked No. 1 in the FIFA Women's World Rankings continuously from March 2008 to December 2014.

@nakanoguy01 So you would be fine if your company decided to give customers a free 3 month trial, and to pay for it they would withhold your salary rather than take the hit themselves?

If she and other big artists complain, companies listen, and all artists benefit. What do you think would happen if some new band complained? Nothing. Sure she will benefit too, but without her actions, small bands suffer while she has no hardship. I applaud her for using her influence
