Quite true to form the Republicans have no idea what they really want. Putin is their boy because of Trump and his family money dealings wanting to put hotels, get branding and doing connective business with enemies over what is best for the USA.

They know Trump is the GOP's convict pick, so they kiss Trump's 215lb, 6'3" cornerback's butt.

Documental dissects how Nissan made up the evidence, the charges, the false allegations, etc.

Very Good!

Agreed. 100%.

For those who think Japan was in the right, and Ghosn was in the wrong. Watch the doc. with an open mind, and watch the whole thing.

Bias against Ghosn is prevalent in this thread, but he did not have a chance for a fair trial in Japan.

He was a fugitive. Staying in Japan, he would have no freedom and would not get fair legal treatment. There was a conspiracy within Nissan to get rid of him, teamed up with the Japanese legal system, and it wasn't for the reasons they arrested him.

He was mistreated and traumatized and the terrible legal and judicial system of Japan is exposed, but every Japanese person in that system has a reasoning of justification that makes no sense anywhere except for the Japanese. It's part of the often machiavellien ways of the Japanese rules system.

Posted in: Ohtani won't pitch for rest of season because of tear in elbow ligament, Angels GM says See in context

He is, right now, undeniably one of the best players in the game, but no team is going to want to pay him 600 million for 10 years, if they think he wont be at the level he is today.

So he has hit two HR with a bum elbow, and is such an attraction, any team with money can promote and PR the heck out of Ohtani. Clearly, 600 million isn't an impossibility, TJ, or not.

The value of sport stars continually rise for those who have an international following, charisma and game (Or had game). If you haven't noticed, there was recently a cool 146 million dollar transfer fee for Caiceido. Messi was offered a reported 1.5 billion for 3 years in Saudi Arabia, of which he turned down.

What is 600 million to most is a relative drop in the bucket for multi billionaire owners and they would more than likely make back much, if not all, and more of the cost thru a player of Ohtani's stature on the team.

Sports ownership is a lucrative business because assets of high quality increase the value of the team, because of name familiarity worth.

Ohtani with any team is going to increase the team value immediately and his presence would sell so many more tickets and Ohtani goods, there's little chance the team wouldn't make an overall financial gain by signing Ohtani. Obviously, the owner market has to be handle the cost, but large markets can and will be after his services.

The only person who really fails here, is Moreno, who isn't as rich as some of the other owners and should have traded for assets, but some of us knew that at the deadline. Injury is just another factor why he should have been traded, and now, will be lost for nothing and no playoffs, either.

A terribly bad decision by a dumb owner.

I find the American system broken because of the GOP. They've lied through my lifetime, starting with Nixon, ongoing to Bush and Cheney to Trump. They've cause ignorance world wide of people who probably didn't follow much politics in the US until Trump's full on lies attracted them.

Thus the negative comments toward the election and the US. Not that I care much, there is no doubt the two party system is flawed greatly, but peeps from other countries should understand where and why the lies are so off putting to liberals and open minded people in the states.

There's no doubt the Trump followers are nationalists who prefer unfair treatment to all people over their own narrative of America.

It'd be good to have each comment with an identification as to where posters are from, if there are cynical and/or disparaging comments toward the election, and why they're interested, and if they are, I'd suggest reading the internet first before saying there's no difference in who's elected.

That's 100% false to the USA and the world, and if cynicism and apathy are your thing as an approach to political opinion, it doesn't work if only to appease your silliness.

If you believe racism is good, misogyny is approved of, there is no global warming, COVID was and is a hoax, women should not be allowed to own their bodies, black lives don't matter, mistreatment of immigrants, fascism is what you want, and democracy in the states is not what you want, then go with the Trump., but don't be wishy washy and say 'duh, they're both bad'.

6 of 8 candidates of the Republican party do not acknowledge the insurrection was encouraged by Trump nor believe Trump lost the election.

They are essentially saying they are not a part of the American system of democracy and traitors to the constitution in believing a fascist, voter fraud president would still be their choice, if convicted of the crime.

The Republican party is truly in shambles, and not a threat to the general election, and it won't matter who runs as a Democrat.

As unbelievably backward as the GOP is, they still think they're relevant, but this MO of lies and false narrative is biting them in the ass, and they're numbed to ignorance. They don't know who they are and completely lost their way, with policies that don't fit this generation.

Seeya, GOP, it's been (not so fun) knowin' ya.

Posted in: Ghosn's rise, fall and dramatic escape is subject of new Apple TV+ series See in context

Mr. Ghosn rose Nissan from likely complete failure back to a highly relevant and money making corporation. He built up the corporation in Japan, with a vast amount of business savvy.

Many might just think him greedy, or they might way to consider that Japan is about neither taking individual blame nor individual glory. In his case, I think Japanese culture said he was paid a salary, he did great, but deserved nothing in terms of true monetary compensation for him saving Nissan and making that huge building in Yokohama a possibility.

For those who are not into looking at what happened, he was at Renault when Renault staked money in Nissan, in 1999. Ghosn was in Japan by 2000, and the Nissan World Headquarters opened in 2009. If one doesn't believe Ghosn had a great deal more than anyone at Nissan to enable such company wealth, they are not informed.

So, likely, he was mad at Nissan for internal power grabbing and not giving him the accolades he deserved, and then made some shady decisions, trying to get compensation for his work he felt he richly deserved. I don't think it was just the money grab people are framing on him. I think he may have done some illegal maneuvering within Nissan, but he was not about to get a fair shake in the Japanese justice system, and I was glad to see him fool the Japanese and get out.

It was interesting to see him at a Chinese restaurant in Japan...a very, very small, family place...good food, great value, and I thought, it makes sense to see how a man who is rich, but frugal in how he spends his money.

4mm...

A statement of pure ignorance on the subject.

Not only a rise, but warming of the waters with an increase of volume in the oceans of the world.

It's incredible the amount of stress only humans can cause the world's ecological problems and likely demise, as many people like 4mm don't care, and don't have the wherewithal to study and comprehend what 4mm actually means in the context of damage to the earth.

The hand the feeds, the earth itself, reciprocates from being bit so much, so often, and so carelessly by humans. And the sad thing is, life on earth is already suffering for it, if some would care to open their minds just a wee bit. It's so obvious, one would have to cherry pick it out of their minds to not believe it. Being used to doing such things is detrimental.

That taxpayer dollar would be wisely spent now because you can't live off the concept of money when it has no more human meaning. Billy Zane on the Titanic. That's conservative rich people in a nutshell. Dumb enough to try and pay off a guy who knows he's going to die with no vision of what the future holds.

Threats to grand jurors are either disapproved or approved of. If one backs the idea of these threats by not denouncing them, then it is a support of criminal behavior often associated with MAGA and Trump people.

I do find it rather sickening when the MAGA crowd is allowed to argue with red herring type arguments that have nothing to do with the matter at hand, and in fact, flip the fault with their opposition as a trite method of operation. It's juvenile, at best. And shows a lot of ignorance.

Cheap argumentative lack of quality and substance bores the hell out of me and laughable, and segue's to unbelievability and lack of credibility, as there is no use for discourse with anyone who can't critically think an issue and stay on subject matter.

Instead of cherry picking and making statements of fallacious wrongs as straw man arguments, which oversimplify and misrepresent to make it easier to refute or attack a statement, the requirement should be to stay with the facts, find all information, and make a logical, non flawed response.

Unfortunately, fallacious argument is all the MAGA crowd has, relying on false and deceptive posts to try psychological manipulation, but ultimately, their arguments are proven wrong with reason and critical thought, which just leads to more deniability and more fallacies of logic. Quite the vicious circle for MAGA people, and really, just a hamster in a cage running the wheel.

Endo is a step down from the possibility of the Chelsea signings, but a decent and more economically feasible one. Endo at the 6 could play or be a backup, depending on how Liverpool promotes its youth.

Liverpool/Chelsea was an interesting game with both teams adding to the six, after their rather meh 1-1 draw, with midfield on both sides lagging. So improvement, hopefully, for Liverpool with Endo and a great chance for Endo to play in England on a top team.

Of course this happens when a crime family gets an indictment.

They find a witness who is to testify against the Don(pun intended) and bring his non english speaking brother from Sicily to threaten bodily harm for the innocent sibling.

This is exactly why Donald Trump will not keep his mouth shut, he wants, like the insurrection, 'innocently' whipping his supporters up in a frenzy and it threatens not only our democracy, but people's lives.

He's a bad person, a liar and a criminal who's influence on other bad people shows ubiquitously.

Posted in: Muslim mobs attack churches in Pakistan after accusing Christians of desecrating Koran See in context

Most religions speak of nothing but peace, forgiveness and respect for humanity.

And most, if not all, religions are hypocritical. They act in the name of peace, but only in the purest sense which eventually gives way to followers using religion as a reason for violence.

It isn't that religion is the cause of all wars and violence, but it is the one part of humanity that is supposed to promote peace and honesty, but it often does the opposite, and cause many, many confrontational and deaths due to people who differ from their beliefs. How silly to not respect a diverse and different way of thought.

Religion should be open to other religions, but the thing about religion is, it is cultish and is narcissistic. It loses all meaning of good when it denies other Gods and people who do not necessarily believe in a God, as the religious zealots are often removed from human rights for all, including, of course, women and people who differ from themselves. Men who think they are God's gift to the world because of their religion are just wrong. And far too often, as in the American right, religion is used as an excuse in a belief that lies ubiquitously.

For us atheists, God and religion is an excuse for humans who can't understand science and reasoning why the universe and the earth exists. I thank being alive and living this life, I have no expectation for an after life. I do believe in love and peace and respect to people, even if I disagree with them. I don't want to kill anyone who differs in my beliefs.

Can religion say the same? Not as far as history has shown.

It was well known Johnny's Jimushou was a place where the young boys were getting abused. I worked in the photographic/media industry for a long time, and everyone knew the improper actions of not only Johnny's but many of the tarento agencies. They're quite heavy handed and sleezy and ooze criminal/yakuza type behavior in abuse and control.

There are few agencies, if any, that represent without cunning. The business itself is bit of a rat race. Part of the reason I couldn't and wouldn't photograph many of the 'stars' of the time. One has to take a somewhat lower road to be a part of the tarento/music business in Japan.

While Johnny Kitagawa is very much in the news, looking like only creep, it's actually fairly common and if one looked into all the agencies, a lot of wrong doing going on.

Also, where is SMAP? Why aren't the Kimura Takuya's, etc., not standing up? Obviously, it's because they fear backlash from the industry. Only those who are minor players are outing Kitagawa. That lack of transparency by groups like SMAP members is a lack of courage to stand up and say what they observed and experienced as the biggest group of Johnny's JImushou.

Refreshing to see Hanada go American football in my home state over sumo. I would bet the mountains, fresh air and atmosphere at CSU is a revelation for him, and happy to see a young Japanese person make a decision that encourages adventure and a broader scope for him.

It's good to see an open minded young man choose a lifestyle in Fort Collins. CSU is a nice place to hang for a college athlete. They're 60 minutes away from top rival Wyoming, and another 60 minutes away from CU in Boulder. It's not an attention grabbing school, but have a legit sports program, and pragmatic choice of majors from a vet school to building management to farming in the form of agricultural sciences.

Good luck to him, and hope he plays!

England methodical and clinical in its game over Australia. Matildas fought hard, but outclassed by a relentless and resilient Lioness' team.

Hemp's goal was misplayed by Carpenter in a manner that was cringeworthy. She had leverage on the play, as those type of weakness' pop up for the lesser side.

Kerr had a couple of golden opportunities to put Australia ahead and later tie the game, but just off. Australia stretched it as far as they could and obviously a good showing for them at home. It sort of reminded me of South Korea getting to the semis in the Japan/ROK 2002 men's WC in how a home team got to the final 4.

Spain vs. England. Nice final. The beautiful game vs. the staunch, clinical one. England has a great methodical game. Spain has some really great individual players offensively and their ability to possess the ball is my pick to take the final.

We shall see. Fun stuff, this World Cup.

Carmona's goal was a great finish. She nailed her kick and it was power and beauty. Paralluelo the super sub.

Unreal 0-0 tie late goes 2-1, in a heart beat. That is football.

Good on Spain. They were labeled as finished after being beaten by Japan, 4-0. The Nadeshiko had near zero possession, yet scored in 90 seconds of a possession with 3 goals. Spain looked like a team that had everything going for them in that game possession wise, but their counter defense was exposed.

At the time, I thought Japan was over rated and Spain under rated and it was a bad game for Spain and they could come back strong. They lost the group to a dominant Japan, yet, here we are Spain in the final.

Next up it's the Aussies vs. England. I think it'll be England, but as shown often, the under dog wins in a very evenly matched World Cup.

How on earth can Trump be elected? - he - as then president - swore an oath to defend and protect the constitution - hasn't he been demonstratively proven to have violated his oath of office?

a. He isn't going to be elected. b. An oath has no meaning to the right and particularly Trump people.

b. is all about having ethics to actually care about having and following ethics(morales is a given they don't adhere, the hypocrisy of the right and religion shows that every day) .

The lie and the alternative truth, of course, excuses any of Trump to take an oath he obviously is lying, and say he is protected by the other alternative fact and truth, that other constitution(of which is democracy which follows a fascist order).

It is nonsense for sane minded people to argue with the insane.

What I never get is why the media or anyone gives MAGA the time of day to spew falsehoods. They enable 'freedom of speech' by the culture of neutrality, when neutrality shouldn't be a given. Maybe in the past, listening as a neutral is fine, but in this world of one side MAGA lying as the conservative MO, it's not OK. Sane media should question the lies and attack the lies a lot more than they do. They actually listen and let these MAGA creeps have their say. That's insanity in itself.

Personally, I won't engage in a long term discourse with liars, it just doesn't work for me when they can't critical think thru all the information. They cherry pick and make things up, and it just reverses to insanity on the same level to try any discourse with the ridiculous stuff I've seen the past few years from the GOP.

The worst mistake of sensible people is to argue with nonsensical people.

4 indictments.

NYC. Business fraud related to paying off a porn actress hush money.

Florida. Jack Smith prosecuting for mishandling confidential documents.

Washington. For Trump's leader role in the insurrection and feeding a frenzy to threaten congress, Pence and our democracy.

Atlanta. For attempting to overturn the election result.

If nothing else, this:

This PAC has become the primary vehicle to pay legal bills for Trump and his associates, and FEC reports show it and five other Trump-related committees have spent more than $40 million in legal fees since the beginning of 2021, the Post reported. These hefty costs may explain why Trump was lashing out Saturday on his social media platform Truth Social for the “vast” legal fees he has spent — which he blames on the “Lunatic Left.”

A ton of proof under RICO in the most recent indictment in Atlanta and the kicker is, even if Trump is elected president, he cannot pardon himself as this one is not a federal case, it is a state one. This one could well be the tax evasion equivalent for Capone.

Trump is scrambling. He's running the wheel in the hamster cage. He's the mouse cornered by the big cat in Willis. Yes, she's after him for his racism and lack of human qualities as a crime boss, and she'll get him.

people should just wait before speaking of things that make no sense, and must have heard from some narrative laden network to say something one sided as silly as firefighters were elsewhere, as if no one cared in Hawaii to try and alleviate a horrible situation.
