An average of 44$/h is a lot. That's more than 90 000$ a year and the union want more money. They should be lucky to have a high paid job that requires almost no education and training. No wonder why they move the plants to Mexico.

I would be more worried about China. The stock market lost 30% in 3 weeks and almost 25% of companies have suspended trading of their shares. Which means it could get worst.

I hope they lower their guidelines too. If this is the same thing than their 70 points thingy you need. You need 10+ years experience, but be under 30. Earn more than 80K, a patent with your name on it, master or doctor degree, level 1 on Japanese proficiency test.

I feel unless you are Einstein or an 29year old IT guy with Japanese parents, living in a G7 nation, you won't qualify. Still, baby steps...

Posted in: U.S. farm groups seek to exclude Japan from TPP trade talks See in context

Japan's agriculture has been messed up and under performing since before the Nara period. Many tried to reform it. What they need is a little bit of time to transition from artisans to mega corporation, so they are not totally crushed. It's not a good idea to be totally dependent of another country to feed your people.

Beef and pork already increased price by 30% this year, in North America, and there is talk it will go up more, due to diseases, high price of feedstock and low offer. If Japan doesn't have those problems, then they will be competitive.

Posted in: Smart T-shirts See in context

This printer is somewhere between 20 000$ and 25 000$. It depends if it has 2 or 4 white cartridges with the usual CMYK.

Brother has a ROI calculator on their website. On average, it's 0.24$ in ink, 0.02$ in maintenance and 0.38$ for the labor cost. I doubt Uniqlo pays more than 1$ for a blank T-shirt, so they should make ¥1,800 profit on each T. Not bad.

I visited once for the new year greeting and the only thing interesting I remember was being patdowned by 2 cute police women. Being inside the walls felt like prison and couldn't wait to get out of there. After that, being almost crush to death at sensoji wasn't so bad after all.

I hope the winners can take pictures, so we can see what it looks like.

At least they had a few years of glitter, instead of getting stuck in a sexless marriage, trying to survive on 2000円 a week, eat nothing else than onigiri and instant ramen, while the spouse is enjoying spa, shopping and dining with friends.

Posted in: Women splash cash on Valentine chocolates for friends, themselves See in context

I never understood women giving chocolate to men on valentine's day.

I used to work next to a Godiva store in Canada and the only time of the year they didn't have a line up of women, was on valentine's day. All the guys I know would much prefer receive some kushiyaki or some loving than chocolate. Or even nothing at all, so you don't have to buy a luxury gift on white day, for chocolate you didn't want.

Posted in: As body ages, Jackie Chan longs for Hollywood's full embrace See in context

He might think he can get those roles, but he's not a good actor. Action and comedy, yes, but not dramatic. I can't imagine him in Saving Private Ryan or Philadelphia.

I work in post-prod and Hollywood is filled with crooks. You may be the best of the best, but if you're not bribing the right person or do couch casting for actors, you will have a really hard time to get work. We get scraps, because we refuse to do this.

I didn't know about the pre 1972 rights. Now it make sense why there are so many oldies stations.

Considering Sony, Universal and Warner count for 90% or more of the music industry, I'd pay royalties if I were Sirius, before they'd cut me off.

Good news, but good luck to implement it.

They could just remove all the restrictions that bans people outside Japan to view things online (even on Youtube) or they are just not there. Search any Korean artist and you'll find an official clip at 1080p. Search for a Japanese artists and, if you find an official clip, it's a minute or so with lower quality or you can't view it. Looks like they don't want ads revenue or sell their products.

Guess who's going to get the money

What's cool: limonitelab CM, fashion, music, games, food, gadgets

What's not: Olympus' board, Tepco, Japan's corporate governance

Posted in: James Cameron tips 'Hobbit' to spark film revolution See in context

I don't mind higher frame rate. For games, higher is better.

I doubt all the movie theaters can show it at 48fps. Especially in 3D. They'll just show it at 24. Blu-Ray doesn't support it, so we can forget about it for home movies too.

People won't really know the difference and since all the special effects work is doubled, it increase the cost a lot. I doubt we'll see lots of 48fps movies in the near future, except huge money makers.

Yeah. Certain food is expensive, but you can get a meal at restaurant for 500yen. I saw this week on tv, a town 1hour drive from Sapporo, they were selling land at 1yen/m^2. That's incredibly cheap.

I wouldn't be surprised if Larry Ellison is suing Google to pay back parts of their Sun acquisition. Android is based on Linux, I'm not sure why they complain about a Java kernel. If Oracle win, I guess lots of companies will want to migrate from Java to something else, to prevent potential lawsuits. Ellison is known to be a jerk too.

He was a very good friend of Steve Jobs, who hated Google with a passion, and wanted to go nuclear because of Android.

8000 yen a day. That's sad. I earn 3 times that and I'm sitting in front of a computer all day. My only health risks are blood cloth and spilling my coffee. I would have thought they would be more around 25 000 ~ 50 000 yen a day. At least.

For that amount, better work at some konbini or donki.

They even finish their post with this: "If any law enforcment agency would like all the raw logs of everything please feel free to email THE A-TEAM!"
