Posted in: Falling in love with Japan again on Toyama’s cycle routes See in context
Hey! Great article. As a resident of Toyama since 1993, I completely concur. Daily life as a resident brings a different point of view, so it was refreshing to get a tourist's perspective. There's a lot more here to enjoy, so I hope you can return someday.

Wow, I can't believe this is an issue. I love when they hand me the cup of coffee! It's a small gesture, but it is a nice one. Oh well. I hope they continue with it.

Good luck to Hagino- he's a great swimmer that is mentally and physically strong. I hope he wins. In Tokyo, he'll face a lot of competition. My bet is on Yuichiro Nakata, a young 14 year old lad in Toyama Prefecture. My wife is a swim coach here, and he is the same age as my son. He just won the Junior Olympics in the 200 IM, and he is smashing records here. This kid is a Mozart in the pool, and I look forward to his rise. Like Hagino, he has a fantastic attitude and spirit. You heard it here first! Nakata mania in 2020... :-)

Looks like a monk from the esteemed Nipponzon Myhoji order. They have been active in peace movements around the world for decades. The kanji on the drum reads Na Mu Myo Ho Renge Kyo, a prayer for peace.

Great job! I was so happy to hear of her medal winning performance. It took some of the sting out of the disappointing figure skating result. It was also kind of funny to see how the Japanese mass-media machine, which had been primed to cover the figure skating, do a sudden pivot to cover this event.

She must be in a terrible place now, mentally. I hope she learns from this and goes out strong. Now with the chances of a medal gone, she can feel freer and lighter and skate to her full potential.

Wow, this is really terrible. Who cares if she had a relationship? I was not into this whole AKB thing because of its superficiality, but now it seems like a wacked-out cult. Yuck. I hope the poor lady recovers her mental health and esteem and moves on from this horrible group.
