This man will be back home hating his daughter for this humiliation. I hope some authority will follow up.

It is disturbing that anyone, especially the police, believe that this child's injuries will heal in about a week. "Gambatte?"

Waiting for the signal to turn blue. Hurrying to get the videos back by 25:00. Asking a student to speak in a big voice. When these events no longer made me feel "other."

Posted in: Why Japanese TV shows have become boring See in context
I rarely watch Japanese tv for many of the reasons discussed in the article. This was a good article that, frankly, most people that watch J-tv could have written. There's something about people trying so hard to sound like the expected persona that wearies me. I sometimes like the NHK 15 minute dramas- I liked "Carnation." I like, though seldom watch, the NHK Sunday singing contest show. That's real.

The origin of "itadakimasu" was lifting one's rice bowl above one's head as a display of humility. One common practice I don't like in Japan is children and fathers demanding "okawari" whenever they want Okaasan to fetch them more rice.

Perhaps part of the appeal is that most Japanese people can pronounce "Beaujolais" with confidence. Anyway, when I was much younger, I was happy to drink Boones Farm, Annie Greenspring and Ripple. Beaujolais Nouveau is a gateway wine.

I like the fruit here. Biwa, tsudachi, persimmons, buntan, many kinds of grapes, expensive perhaps, but we can afford to splurge. We buy a lot of produce at JA. It's cheaper fresher and grown locally. Also, another thing Japan got right: my wife!

A few years ago, a girl washing dishes in her kitchen was mistaken for a bear and shot. Hunters were ridding the countryside of rampaging bears. Must of worked- I haven't seen any bear stories on the news recently and the dirty dishes keep on piling up.
