Posted in: Asako Hara shows her form on the LA street dance scene See in context

Can't stand street dance. Looks like mini-Janet Jacksons ready to punch people's lights out. All of the same moves with same bad-ass attitudes.

Vuvuzelas take some getting used to, but they add a certain atmosphere to the stadiums, even if half-filled. I agree, much better than the "Nippon, cha-cha-cha" chant. And far better than the Japanese sportscaster's commentary. What happened to the bilingual option?

Posted in: If "The Cove" is ever shown in cinemas in Japan, will you go to see it, or see it on DVD? If you've already seen it, what did you think of it? See in context

I'll take the kids and feast on whale meat beforehand after a day out at the aquarium. It should be a blast!

I'm sure this is just what their parents envisioned when deciding to have kids.

Posted in: Man caught taking up-skirt photos with camera in his shoe See in context

It's a game of cat and mouse in this country with the short skirts and the guys peeping. Girls know they're going to be targets of stares, but thankfully it usually isn't much worse than that. Guys also know (or should know) the risks with embedding a camera in their shoe or trying to grab a handful on the train. If you can't handle the consequences, then don't play the game.

I'm just happy Kim won. Can't imagine how ruthless the Korean media would have been had she not pulled this off. Mao can come back to Japan and still be regarded with some respect, considering the favorite was Kim. I hope these two face off again in four years. And to the Canadian, big, big congratulations given the circumstances.

Posted in: Japan's women curlers eliminated in round-robin stage See in context

I actually got turned on to curling, thanks to the two particularly glowing J-gals. If I can find a facility here in Yokohama, I might give it a try. Seriously! I'm not kidding!

I always knew Canadians had a sinister streak. Nobody's that nice and not repressing something.

Somebody bring back that glowing puck, otherwise it just looks like a bunch of guys skating around jousting with curved sticks.

Posted in: Hakuho's wedding See in context

I also thought he was married, but maybe it was just the city hall registration before. Never did like the white outfit women have to wear. It's heavy and makes her look like the wedding cake.

If Kim wins the gold, then she'll be crowned the queen of Korea for taking down Japan's three best.

Can't wait to NOT see that teeny, tiny puck. I bet the Sweden vs. Finland match is going to get nasty - those Scandinavians and their hot-headedness.

Kim Yu Na is fire on ice. She's going to smoke these three with that James Bond program alone.

Congrats, especially since these medalists are a bit more masculine than the usual bunch (though you can't really tell by the pic).

Kokubo was actually not half bad. Shaun White, though, was in a league of his own. Just the sheer height he reaches is mesmerizing.

I'll say they're sloppy, leaving their clothes everywhere, leaving dirty dishes in the sink...and don't get me started on that hair thing.

bamboohat, you are officially "old school". snowboarding is as legitimate an olympic sport as curling and ice dancing. In fact, for the summer games, make skateboarding, marbles, and ballroom dancing olympic sports to kind of even out the "cool factor" of these here games.

Posted in: Kokubo out See in context

Shaun White to snowboarding is what Tony Hawk is to skateboarding - glorified punks. Still, they do some radical stuff out there and earn my envy for going out and doing what they love - and getting paid for it. J-officials and every other salaryman - Japanese and otherwise - could learn a bit about cutting loose and living life from these shredders. Now where's my bong?

Posted in: After all the delays, Vonn shines light on Alpine skiing with gold performance See in context

Small people, big heart. As an American, I'm glad the U.S. is doing well. Being an Olympic athlete takes years of hard training, and the dedication to keep going is something money can't buy. Which is why for the pixie-ish Japanese to compete with the Euro-giants like Austria and Norway says a lot about the heart of these people.

By the way, where are the bikini shots of Vonn?

Japan's not raking in the medals, but they have had top ten finishes in a lot of the sports where there's not a whiff of a competitor from another Asian country - take ski jumping and the moguls. But yeah, I agree - no medal, no glory...unless you're really hot.
