Good for Korea! Great that they put their naturally chunky thighs to good use. But they should try to be competitive in the other sports as well, ala Japan.

Seems to happen a lot in this sport. You'd think after all the time and training, they'd get the whole "not slipping out of contention" thing down.

Doesn't take long for the gropers to grab the train-related headlines again.

Try not to ride the front car of any train - lest you be the first to go in a head-on or a derailment.

Agree! Great fun to watch. Almost as fun as seeing the mogulers wipe out.

Everyone on the team...shave your heads! At least that should rid the team of that vanity thing that makes J-soccer players look like girly-girls on a Sunday run in the park.

For once, a train story of heroism rather than lechery. Sounds like the beginning of a J-drama.

I once asked a cashier at a Starbucks in Vancouver if they have baguettes. He asked, "What's a baguette?"

Posted in: Canada's French-English strife flares at Olympics See in context

There's a reason French wasn't really used - it's a minor language. Why the Olympics still insist on using at all rivals why Latin is still taught in some schools. Quebecers, if you want to speak French, go to France! Oui?

What are females supposed to do as members of the "fire brigade"? And save any jokes using the word "hose".

McDonald's + Long hours + crew meals of big macs and lard fries = coronary.

Posted in: Man sets fire to apartment due to noisy neighbor See in context

Once had a noisy neighbor. All I wanted to do was toss his piano out the window. Seriously, a bit too much grief in this world to have neighbors and countrymen turn on each other. And arson? Guy obviously wasn't thinking about the potential to take out a few lives that way.

Posted in: Vancouver Olympics open under a cloud after fatal luge accident See in context

The lugers are probably the most exposed as far as lack of protection. Still, didn't know someone could literally fly off the track. It may have been determined to be human error, but these ARE humans, not machines flying down the course at 90 mph. Of course there are going to be human errors, but they shouldn't be life threatening. I think the IOC is trying to spare Vancouver of any more embarrassment and a potential lawsuit.

The parents should be made to escort the younguns to the restaurant and apologize to the manager and waitstaff - people who think things in life aren't free and need to be earned.

Looking forward to reading this stuff, but I'm more interested in the business end of things.

By the way, it's not just foreigners in Japan that look down on eikaiwa teachers. I was talking with someone in the U.S. and he asked me what I did in Japan. I said I was teacher. He said, "Oh, you're one of those," or something to that effect.

Posted in: What sort of a future do you think Asashoryu has in sumo after the latest allegations of bad behavior? See in context

The path for retired foreign yokozuna seems to be a stint in K-1 or Pride or some other MMA think where he gets plunked within 3 seconds of the opening bell. Still, he's the best to happen to sumo since, like, ever, so the sumo officials should set aside their biases and embrace this behemoth of a personality.

What, were they afraid it was going to sell out? Could they catch the last train home? How sorry and void must their lives be to have to be the first to buy something that was already in the theaters? May the force be with them.

Posted in: Matsui backs games between Japan and MLB champions See in context

Again, bad idea. The J-league is a bunch of chumps, a mere farm system to provide cash cows for the Steroid...I mean, Major Leagues. As if their season doesn't drag on long enough. Both leagues are trying to overmilk this cow. (I think this is the first time I've used "cow" twice in the same paragraph.)
