Posted in: Two Japanese youths arrested for placing exploding bag of dog poop in police box See in context

Premeditated...carrying around a bag of poop...admitted to thinking it would be fun. They should stand them against a wall and take turns kicking them in the nuts...then tell them how fun it was.

Disputing this in a legal sense...if you break the law which was established to prevent cyclists from using the pedestrian crossings thereby creating a "hazard" there should be a legal argument for the driver in this case. Cyclists should stop at the lights along with the automobile drivers to prevent the "chaos" that is negotiating a left hand turn in this country. Road laws were established for a reason, not so cyclists could pick and choose which rules to follow and expect the automobile drivers to acquiesce.

Is it legal to ride a bike across a pedestrian crossing? Why was the driver charged for negligence if the bicycle was illegally in the crossing? There are near misses like this daily in Tokyo...

Posted in: Ex-cop arrested for attempting to abduct 15-year-old girl See in context

Crimes against children deserve extra long jail sentences. No sympathy for this kind of behavior.

To live for so many years and yet die in such a horrible senseless way...sad.

No new legislation is needed...just employ your elbow to the ribs of the person not paying attention and the message will be received.

Posted in: Woman dies after heavy-set police officer sits on her See in context

Police were called in to "subdue" this woman...not sure of the Japanese police procedures but as far as tactics used in the US this sounds reasonable. Also 220lbs is a normal weight for a US/European police officer with "full gear". More than likely there was more to her medical history that attributed to her death. I'm not sure what they expected the police to do...sit in the police cruiser and watch?? She would've got "tazed" in the states.

Posted in: Free gifts, cheap coffee no help as McDonald’s Japan troubles continue See in context

The McDonalds here tastes way better than the stateside McDonald's. Only gripe is the overpriced soda with no option for a free refill. It is always hilarious if you have a full tray of food and try to sit down and everyone else is nursing a coffee and tries not to make eye contact with you!

Just adding an extra hour of "normal" service would be an improvement.

They should make a public apology so all who were victims of the vandalization can hear.

Posted in: Obama sends Congress $3.8 trillion spending plan See in context

All the money that has been spent in the name of "911" needs to be recouped. Revenue increase coupled with spending cuts is the only way forward. Introduction of the new health care law at this time was clearly political and untimely. Wars aren't cheap especially when there was no revenue gained from Iraq or Afghanistan.

Interesting how a concerned citizen held him so the authorities could take custody...doubt it would be that easy in the states.

Neither side of the aisle are going to be pleased with what needs to be done...cut spending while raising taxes.

Posted in: Japan increasingly nervous about North Korean missiles See in context

The US and South Korea won't stop there at just taking out military assets. This will be an all out invasion. Not too many dictators left in the world and a lunatic with possible nuclear capability will not be allowed to regain power if he does something as dumb as launching missiles toward Japan...etc. Still not sure what his endgame is.
