If you are afraid of this bug, wear a mask, socially distance and keep your old folks and infirmed isolated. Let the rest of us get on with our lives.

Of the 258 new cases, how many of these people were religiously wearing masks ?

Don't know about lazy or selfish but I know one person we can put in the dumb column.

33 needed hospitalization, but no breakdown on how many of these are elderly or people with existing health problems.

Just throwing out numbers as far as I can tell.

Sure seems like she got their attention.

WHY does she hate cops? There's got to be a reason.

The gun might have been a bit much, these guys are trained in martial arts. I really don't believe he would ever have shot her. Hell, they don't even shoot yakuza most times.

I believe it was in fact a cry for help.

"Put her in jail for a long time"?

How about investing, consulting ?

She's 16 for christ's sake.

I don't know but how about victim of domestic violence, called police many times but they did nothing ?

May or may not be the case but "put her in jail for a long time" seems to be a bit drastic.

Influenza A viruses are further classified into subtypes, while influenza B viruses are further classified into two lineages: B/Yamagata and B/Victoria. Both influenza A and B viruses can be further classified into specific clades and sub-clades (which are sometimes called groups and sub-groups).

So I guess Yamagata and Victoria should be stigmatized by this

Naming these pandemics after locations is not new. The Spanish flu of 1918 killed about 40 million (although it did not really start in Spain), the Asian flu was in 1957, the Hong Kong flu of 1968 killed about a million. Now calling this bug after it's point of origin is racist.

Posted in: Takeda Pharmaceutical says it is developing coronavirus drug See in context

Most masks are not sealed around the face, in fact most of the air you breath or exhale goes around the mask. If it was really efficient you would feel suffocated when wearing one.

A lot of the transmission comes from touching items that have been contaminated, so I guess full of softballs.

Most infectious disease experts are saying that masks alone are inefficient (idiots!), Ossanamerica knows better.

Experts advise to use masks if you are dealing with an infected person, like health care professionals. But they can't get masks because everyone on the planet wants one.

I would rather spend 8 hours in a room with a lot of people who are not contagious (that's a safe place) than be on public transportation with a bunch of people who are wearing masks that don't seal their faces. False sense of security is dangerous.

But Ossanamerica is a health care professional so listen to him.

Posted in: More details emerge about anime studio arson attack that killed 33 See in context

Looking at photos of the building before and after the fire I see that there is a large balcony on both the second and third floors, sometimes there are rope ladders on the balcony or just inside it. The photo of the the same side of the building after the fire shows most of the damage is at these two balconies so the arsonist may have doused those areas to keep people from escaping through the balcony.

Jumping from a second or third floor can break an ankle or leg but is rarely fatal.

Posted in: Russia protests over G20 map it says showed disputed islands as Japan's See in context

Why is everyone forgetting the Ainu? They are recognized by both Russia and Japan as indiginous peoples. The Ainu consider both countries as Invaders. They partitioned Putin to not return the islands to Japan. So the obvious and moral solution is to make the islands autonomous and give them to the Ainu who number somewhere between 20k and 200k worldwide.
