I blame conservatism that demonizes welfare and social assistance, as much as Ms. Osawa who actually did it. There's no such thing as self-reliance and pulling one's up by the bootstraps. All of the successful people in the world stepped up other people's ladders. And the goddess of anti-welfare ayn rand herself took social security and medicaid. The same conservative mindset then demands that Japanese court hand down the death penalty for the crime. Death, death, death. I choose a better, cooperative, non-judgmental world.

Posted in: Japan still skeptical of PSY’s popular appeal See in context
Face it Japan, the world moves on. We're not all walking around with Sony gadgets, we're walking around with Samsung and Apple phones. That starter car or second family car isn't a Honda or Toyota anymore, it's a Hyundai. Anime was maybe cool 20 years ago. They don't write novels about how Japanese Corporations are using Zen Buddhism and the book of five rings to ruthlessly take over the world like 30 years ago. Samurai movies were hip 50 years ago. Japan is no longer the default Asian country to most westerners. I still love you Japan, but you gotta get over it and not begrudge Psy's success.

Maduro will win, Capriles will lose. Again. Just like Hugo was elected and then reelected 3 times, just like the popular will defeated the 2002 coup attempt and turned back the attempted recall. El Commandante picked some ugly friends on the international scene, but he brought dignity and confidence to the lower and middle classes. Chavez wiped out illiteracy and opened universities. Chavez slashed poverty. Maduro has a lot to live up to. Okay, Milton Friedman lovers, flame away!
