I use the Ueno station sometimes, so it would be interesting to see in person these visual aids.

Posted in: Kishida unveils plan to set up pandemic crisis control unit similar to CDC See in context

What do Japan expect to do with copying the shape of the CDC, the thing works in America because it get power to do things, that is not what happens in Japan. Even if some form of J-CDC is put in place it will be told what to do and how to do it by the usual people in power, so nothing extra will come from this

I like very much the last phrase of this note, but of all the things happening in Ukraine language is not one I am paying any attention to.

Well it had not much options left so it is only taking the reasonable option. Chinas war mongering is getting out of control and no single country can oppose it, the US are still the least dangerous devil but taking care of things with a regional alliance is of course a much better way to do things.

This is one of the reasons why I no longer use 7-eleven, the guys working there no longer pack your things (because you bring your own bag) and they don't take your money because you have to do it by yourself, they are there just to check you don't steal things.

Posted in: It's impossible to determine your personal COVID-19 risks and frustrating to try See in context

China rejected the advice of the WHO and spread the pandemic on the world, Japan did the opposite and it has been doing fine in comparison with the average in the world. The WHO is an authority on health matters of the world and it does not take a doctor to know it.

Ironic for this article to be published here, Japan is one nation with horrible mental care, psychiatrists so badly prepared it is shameful.

Posted in: Measles cases surge 80%; other diseases could follow: U.N. See in context

Pretending measles is a mild disease is a new low. I wish people that try to convince others of this had a chance to spend a day in a pediatric ward during an outbreak. That would open their eyes (or not, some people are just that self centered).

Posted in: COVID treatments: Still struggling for mass uptake See in context

And here I was, thinking that now that news about vaccines are rare the resident antivaxxers would leave the site alone only to come and find the regulars now attacking also drugs against COVID. And as usual the personal attacks and open disinformation is rampant. Why is it so bad that people can be saved from COVID? you don't want to use something? then refuse it when you go to the hospital fighting for every breath, just let the rest of the people get better and survive thanks to advances of science.

So many people exposing their own insecurities, feeling attacked and inferior just because Japanese society can let children act in this way without being automatically in danger.

There will be always someone making outrageous claims about Japan being insecure and dangerous because in their 20 years here they heard once about some crime.

Posted in: Japan expert panel OKs use of Novavax COVID-19 vaccine See in context

As soon as I saw the title I knew the resident antivaxxers would be attacking either the new vaccine or the older ones (or both!), what is actually surprising is to see how many accounts they had to use to attack the people that debunk their disinformation without even taking the time to use actual arguments and instead just using personal insults

Way to go Japan Today, not for nothing the comment section is always full of people only attacking others.

There is no real excuse here, the guys had to know there is a lot of protected things in the island, so just hacking away without any worry would have consequences. Probably more an act of stupidity than malice, but the damage is done so they will have to pay the penalty.

Dying from COVID as the direct consequence of the infection without other obvious reasons, dying with COVID would mean the infection was a contributing factor but not the only one.

Posted in: Letters from Japan: ‘Dating an expat In Japan’ See in context

Making the immediate conclusion that expats only want to date Japanese girls because they don't want to date the writer is too presumptuous. Sure, on one side it would be understandable that foreigners want to date someone that is well adapted to the culture and environment of the country and a native is the obvious choice, but it can also be that the writer is just not that good a catch so guys are just dating elsewhere, and being in Japan this means Japanese girls are by much the most numerous nationality from where to choose.
