Posted in: Kyiv prepares for a winter with no heat, water or power See in context

On my local news there were reports of consideration on evacuation of whole Kyiv if heat, water and power problem is not resolved for winter and we are taking about 3 mil people. Such a sad scene it will be if it comes to it, I have no idea how will they pull that off.

My fear for heating shelters is that they become targets for air strikes.

Russia doesn't seem to care about war crimes, and collateral damage.

If they can make citizens fear that the heating shelters might be targeted, then they might not be used.

Putin inflicting as much misery as possible on the people he wants to rule is a good reason for the Ukrainians to keep fighting for their freedom, and for other democratic countries to continue supporting them.

Iran reminds me in many ways of Nazi Germany in the way that it's governed. The regime has at its core an ideology that is imperialist, genocidal and irredentist. Its leadership is murderous, racist, fanatical and aggressive. They have rallies that remind you of Nuremberg. They even have their own version of the SS and SA.

That said, I suspect that most of the people chanting "Death to America" would gladly move there instead if given the choice.

The war criminals are kidnapping citizens to use them as human shields and/or preparing for something much more odious. That's the way the barbarian Russian ***** roll.

Putin needs to surrender and pull out of Ukraine, the war is lost. Vlad the Terrible can not be allowed any victories, land to rule or people to oppress, evil must be defeated or it just comes back for more. Victory to Ukraine!

Should civilians be evacuated from a war zone? Probably.

Should they be evacuated to where Putin wants them taken? Probably not.

It is indicative of the situation that elderly persons face in the country. As many of them don’t have help, they end up looking after their loved ones who are also elderly.

I'm not surprised. I hope Japan starts taking LGBTQ+ rights seriously ASAP.

The figures are also about four times higher than the results from a survey conducted last year by the philanthropic Nippon Foundation.

The Nippon Foundation's 2021 survey revealed that 12.7% of people aged between 10 and 19 had thought about suicide in the past year, and 3.5% had attempted it.

It's very simple: whatever the Russian government says, assume the opposite is the real truth.

Let's see: one side (RU) has been engaging in indiscriminate artillery attacks on civilian targets.

The other (UK) has been engaging in targeted attacks on logistical and command centers. A captured nuclear facility isn't one of those. This side has also been attempting to preserve its infrastructure.

...Gosh, who to believe, who to believe....

People standing up were crushed to death. That’s the terrifying thing about crowd crush - you don’t have to fall down to die. The pressure gets so bad you can’t breathe in.

Video showed that even when the alley entrance was clear the people were so jammed together they couldn’t move while rescuers were failing to pull people out because they were stuck. I’ve never seen anything like this.

A few thoughts about Putin’s regime in Russia: 1. As long as Putin stays in power, repression in Russia will only increase. 2. As long as Putin can, he will pursue wars. The outside world needs to box him in with arms & sanctions.

Well, any pressure to engineer a negotiated settlement should applied to the Russians: In other words, leave Ukraine's sovereign territory immediately and start saving up to pay Ukraine back for every life lost and every broken brick and bit of stolen or damaged property.

Posted in: Intruder seeking U.S. House Speaker Pelosi at her home beats husband with hammer See in context

What were once center right parties have chosen to take the far right aboard in their lust for power. The result is unintended (?) black shirts. The extremists have executed a coup on the republicans. Trump sent the extremists after Pence, so no one is safe. A sad state of affairs. When the Cheney family have become apparent "moderates" it is obvious how extreme the GOP has become.

I would be shocked, simply shocked, if all the calls for violence from the far right actually resulted in someone taking action. Which is to say I wouldn't be shocked at all. Pretending words don't have consequences is unbelievably dangerous.

China, however, denied accusations of illegal activity, saying the locations simply offer services -- such as driver's license renewals -- to Chinese nationals abroad.

Slowly, China is creeping into all aspects of our lives. Buying businesses, houses, farmland, government bonds at all levels, establishing lobbies, establishing a strong presence in South America, etc. China may smile and act like they’re our friends, but they have a much more sinister goal in mind. Canada better wake up before it’s too late.

Espionage, persecution and intimidation are not services. They are however a violation of the sovereignty of the nations where they are carrying out these operations.

Posted in: Putin blames West for Ukraine war, plays down nuclear fears See in context

Meanwhile, Russia warned that Moscow could target Western commercial satellites used for military purposes in support of Ukraine, and a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman accused the United States of pursuing “thoughtless and mad” escalation.

Russians accuse U.S. of "pursuing 'thoughtless and mad' escalation." Suggesting their attack on Ukraine was perfectly rational and acceptable and not an escalation of anything? It's terribly clear that they not only lie about everything to the rest of the world but apparently live in their own self-constructed world of illusion.

The most recent thoughtless and mad escalation is destroying 40% of the energy infrastructure in Ukraine and planning a false flag dirty bomb attack. Russia spews nonsense and lies.

Posted in: Ukrainians expect tough fight for Kherson; Russia stages nuclear war games See in context

In Russia, the military staged a high-profile rehearsal for nuclear war, with state television broadcasts dominated by footage of submarines, strategic bombers and missile forces practicing launches in retaliation for an atomic attack.

The guy is a full on loon. Threatening to blow up the world because Russia (already the largest country in the world) needs a bit more space to spread out into.

We can not tolerate this continuous sabre rattling from Putin and his stooges. All these events must be matched by more heavy weapons for Ukraine.
