Posted in: Man gets life in prison for murdering mistress, baby See in context

Yoshidomi's defense team had sought 13 to 15 years in prison, saying the defendant admits to the charges and repents for what he has done.

I hope that this acts as a precedent in that apologizing after the fact and showing remorse means diddly-sqaut!!

"Wait a minute! It took 12 1/2 years to get this to trial, with a confession?"

I'm guessing so that they had the option of finding him "not-guilty" but still have him serve the time proposed by the defense team.

"How can she show remorse if she is pleading innocence?"

She confessed, and then withdrew the confession, and pleaded not-guilty.

Showing remorse would mean sticking to the original confession, sparing the victims' families the ordeal of a trial, and throwing yourself at their mercy to avoid the death penalty.

As it stands saying that she is a "coldhearted killer.... she doesn't even have remorse" is quite reasonable under the circumstances.

Accused 'black widow' serial killer claims innocence

Finally! A bona-fide Japanese serial killer!!

Google searching never came up with much. It is almost as if there are no crazy psychopaths on the loose in Japan going around killing people for their own needs.

"Will anyone make a movie?"

They should. But that would mean the Japanese having to admit that, they too, have serial killers.

Hoshi allegedly stole three containers of grated cheese (worth about 1,289 yen)... [but] had about 40,000 yen in cash on him

He was stopped "as he was leaving the store" but it's not technically shop-lifting until you've left the store and even then you can claim that you just plain forgot to pay; especially if you are carrying enough cash.

This sounds like a cry for help...

English education in junior high school emphasizes systematic knowledge such as grammar

Teachers focus on what's easy to teach but hard to learn instead of what's easy to learn but hard to teach. And that is vocab, vocab, vocab. Unfortunately the average native English speaker knows about 250,000 words.

"I'm looking at all these JHS students on the train. Poor guys memorizing DICTIONARIES!! With vocabulary that I would be proud of a native speaker their age for using correctly"

That's the only way to do it!!

Police said they are looking at station surveillance camera footage to try and identify the suspect

A woman in her 20s would be wedded to her smartphone. In England the police would not need to reply on CCTV footage because the victim would have filmed the man on her phone.

Instead of risking further assault the victim only needs to get her phone out, point it at the suspect and say, 'hey chikan, why did you do that?'

How did this happen?

The container ship was seen making a U-turn before the collision on some ship trackers, a move that has raised questions about what happened.

It was a huge 180 degree U-turn going back on itself a long way before colliding with the destroyer. It then turned again to continue on the original course.
