The Japanese don't believe that they are war criminals, that's the problem.

Or it could be that Trump is simply supporting human rights.

Lmao, good one. Even his good friend Xi is laughing.

Tying Hong Kong with a trade deal is probably worse than tying Huawei with it. At this point, with the trade war going on and sanctions, what would additional sanctions do? It didn't even do much since 1989.

Trump just wants to entice Xi to try and help the markets bounce back, because it's not making him look good right now, with a possible looming recession.

This will just let China (maybe along with Russia) want to put their own missiles in the American hemisphere.

Britain had to. Just look at the interaction between Thatcher and Deng.

When conservative Koreans criticize Moon, who gained support and views from Japanese right-wingers, then it's okay.

But when there are Japanese who criticizes Abe, then the conspiracies are let loose.

How many Afghans were behind 9/11?

The Taliban in Afghanistan were harboring Bin Laden. Didn't you guys know that?

Let's pretend that's a good argument, but again, please explain

13 out of 32 million, Toasted? Really? Painting with a broad brush are we?

So you're willing to go invade certain a country just for a group of people, but not willing to do it to another country?

vs the 0 amount of people in Iraq and Afghanistan that was guilty of 9/11, the two countries that I'm sure chicken hawks love being in.

There should be a new higher body separate from the UN that is limited to democratic states in which countries that are not democracies would be forced to reform in order to gain access to its benefits.

But that should mean that these democracies also can't access the benefits of engaging with those non-democratic, resource-rich, developing economies around the world too, right? Right?

No Western delegation was willing to take the lead and expose itself as a "ringleader" through a joint statement or resolution, diplomats said.

This was due to governments' fears of a potential political and economic backlash from China, diplomats said.

The UN is like a spider's web. If you're a fly, you get caught in it, but if you're a bull, you pass right through.

Posted in: Hong Kong protesters aim to take message to mainland Chinese See in context

Hmm, slightly different approach from vandalizing their flags, and calling them "locusts", I see.

I think it's a little bit too late for Hong Kong. There's a report that mainlanders nowadays are looking less optimistic of that city's model.

The fact of the matter is, no matter how bad the CCP is, more people in mainland China are becoming middle class, and with that, comes their own set of pride, which make them start lifting their own chins for once- something that was once exclusive only to the Hong Kongers, and the Taiwanese, before. And seeing that both economies are highly dependent on China, this notion will just be stronger in the future.

I kind of like the VAR. It's more reassuring. To me, bad refereeing is worse than some delays, and I like that it enforces the rules of the game.

However, if there's one change I'd like to see in football, it's the removal of shootouts. It's so anti-climactic, and renders the 90+ minutes prior as meaningless in my opinion.

Posted in: Premiere of Chinese war film canceled in apparent censorship See in context

At first, I wondered why they would censor patriotic/nationalistic war movie, but then I read the KMT thing- insecurity (even though the CCP and the KMT are getting friendlier nowadays when it comes to the DPP).

the KMT would have been able to devote more resources to fight the invaders (Japanese et al.).

It's not that simple. The KMT (Really, just Chiang Kaishek and his closest advisers) viewed the communists more dangerous than Imperial Japan. Japan were already stationed in China before they even started the war against them (through the false flag of destroying their own railway), and even after that, the KMT still focused on the communists.

It also didn't help the fact that, aside from Japan, there were other foreign-owned (Western) colonies within China during the KMT rule, which was a continuation since the Qing Dynasty, and it was always used as propaganda against them- like why or how could the "Nationalist Party" allow that to happen?

If I were Xi, he should just tell the media that Trump seems be the one who wants to meet him so badly, and then proceeds to cancel the meeting for more "important reasons."

Everyone knows he'd probably put tariffs on the $300B goods anyway, which Trump still won't understand that it's a tax on his own people.

Could you imagine how Trump would feel if he's being snubbed for, let's say, Justin Trudeau?
