Posted in: Japan eyes shortened isolation period for close Omicron contacts See in context

Here in Okinawa the wait now just to get tested at the specified testing centers is up to 10 days! So by that time your symptoms have gone and you are already feeling better anyways.

This Omicron is just out of control now, it's a cold virus. Just like the flu. In a few weeks Japan will, like

the U.k. have given up and just tell people to carry on with their lives. Stay at home for a week till you're

better.

Posted in: Bali reopens to foreign travelers but no international flights arrive See in context

Seriously! After passing all the tests, entering Bali, quarantining in your Hotel room for 5 days, looks like you still have to wear a mask on the beach. WTH! Why even bother going at all!

Posted in: Does the arrival of Costa Coffee spell the end for Japan’s independent cafes? See in context

Costa coffee sucks. And 500yen for a flat white, give me Dotour anyday! I am presuming the size will be a lot bigger than Dotour though as I am always shocked at how big the coffee cups are now when I go back to the UK.

Posted in: Okinawa declares coronavirus state of emergency as cases spike See in context

Starting today huh, well I think most restaurants didn't get the memo. Saw a yaki niku open and a department restaurant still going after 9.30pm. Wonder how many places are going to comply. It's all very well the government saying they are going to compensate them, but will they actually get that compensation before their rent is due.

Posted in: Peach plane diverts to Niigata airport to offload passenger who refused to wear a mask See in context

Shouldn't it be part of their final check, along with checking all seat belts are fastened , to make sure everyone has their mask on. If not the passenger should be informed they can put one on or get off the plane. On most flights people are still allowed to drink their own beverages and eat if they want. So all quite pointless really unless social distance seating is enforced.

Posted in: U.S. forces begin virus testing on all personnel arriving in Japan See in context

Arriving? It means they are still sending people to and from the U.S. Even after this has happened.

No-one should be arriving from the States full stop. Military or Civilian!

Posted in: Japan to ban free plastic bags at stores to fight marine pollution See in context

Plans to..... yeah like when ? Probably another 5 years in the planning. And people will still just pay the extra 3 yen for the plastic bag every time i reckon so none of this is going to make much difference here. Perhaps if they hike it up to 10yen people might think twice. But at least they will have to ask for it every time without being given the option again actually making people think about it.

Posted in: Okinawa-based U.S. Marines may start moving to Guam in Oct 2024 See in context

may start as early as October 2024' This is so messed up, why even print the article when it says 'may' not even a definite plan. And October 2024 is another five and a half years away! I am sure the end of the world as we know it will have come by then .

Posted in: Extended Golden Week loses luster for working parents See in context

Giving all public services such as city office, banks, clinics and hospitals 10 days off all at the same time is kind of ridiculous. So we cannot go to the bank or the clinic for 10 day, just can't imagine the lines of people waiting after that holiday.

Posted in: Japan to ban use of plastic straws, cutlery in gov't cafeterias See in context

A tiny, tiny, tiny step. In Government buildings and shops in Government buildings? I mean really! Oh well,

I suppose it is a start in the right directions for Japan.

Especially the bakeries. I go crazy waiting in line watching the cashier wrap 10 buns in 10 different bags just to put it in a paper bag with no handles, just to put THAT in a plastic bag!!! This also drives me mad just watching them, I have even asked them to stop putting in all my bread in individual different bags and she just smiled and kept on doing it. I was so mad, next time that happens I think I will just cancel the sale and leave.

Posted in: Gov't to start full-fledged landfill work for Okinawa base on Dec 14 See in context

I think Futenma will stay, Henoko will never be finished. The greedy rent grabbing landowners may have some part in it. It will probably never be returned. Perhaps one day 20 years in the future when l may be dead and gone.

Indeed they need to stop calling the new base when it is a replacement for Futenma, or an extension of Schwab. By calling it a new base, it sounds like they are building another one in addition to Futenma. But I am wondering, if they ever do get the chance to finish the runways which I sincerely hope they don"t where they are going to house all the extra personnel, just keep adding housing on Schwab?
