The zoo should have announced the happy birth of just one panda, and then raised one secretly - hopefully a female.

Be happy you live in Japan.

I am. But there are some foreigners in town who go on and on (online) about masking up, staying socially distanced or basically staying home. Absolute boors. I have to pretend to like them. Well, I don't, but one couple is popular so I pretend so as not to avoid public furor.

Not sure why people are complaining. Beer served at the Olympics is a natural disinfectant. Coronavirus is unable to spread when beer is present.

I'm guilty of this as well, but nothing like the van in the YouTube video! I do it if the light is red and I'm late, but if it's just a couple cars waiting to turn, I'll wait.

The closest law that would apply is if the vehicle doesn’t come to a complete stop before crossing the sidewalk to enter or exit the lot.

I will admit I did not know this.

The screaming irony is they sound twice the 'man' than most of the 'men' commenting here.

Well, sure! I'll be the first to admit that "they" sounds twice as much as "man". I'm only one person while "they" indicates at least two people. Kwik maffs!

Where did it say Yokoyama wants them used in Japanese?

Where did it say she wants them used in English? It's a news article about a Japanese person on a site called Japan Today.

Hopefully we'll have divisions for all genders so women will not be marginalized

So....72 divisions? Or is it more now?

Posted in: Japanese soccer star Kumi Yokoyama comes out as transgender man See in context

From the article:

Yokoyama, who wishes to be referred by the gender-neutral pronouns "they" and "them", had a breast-removal operation at the age of 20.

Me: How exactly does that work in Japanese? Ridiculous.

Each to their own; what difference does it make to you what gender people choose to be?

I'm not talking about gender and whether they think they can choose it. I'm talking about the pronouns that Yokoyama wishes to be referred by. Hence the part I quoted. So I will repeat my question, but spelled out a bit more for you. Feel free to let me know if you still don't understand.

How exactly should one use "they" and "them" in Japanese? It's rather silly to use English words in Japanese sentences.

Months later, they won a fourth World Cup for the United States as fans chanted "equal pay" during the 2-0 final triumph against the Netherlands.

I'm all for equal pay. Anyone doing the same job at the same level producing the same results should get the same pay. And because I believe that, I believe these women do not deserve equal pay.

Greatest Olympian ever. Legend.

Bolt is great, no doubt, but I'm a big fan of Jesse Owens. He overcame real hardships, secured 4 gold medals, 3 of which were new world records and the 4th was a tie for the world record - and he did it all within 45 minutes.

And he snubbed Hitler. Not many people have a resume like him!

I believe that the story would be quite different if the lady from this article were to compete in martial arts.

I would like to see a woman compete in men's martial arts and get selected to represent her country. No sarcasm - I'd really like to see that! I don't think it will happen, but if it DID, it would be amazing to see!

If you need another example of the sad truth that men are better than women in most sports, at least at the elite level, look no further than tennis. The Williams sisters were both beaten handily, one after the other , by a man ranked 203rd in the world. Mind you, it might not have been a fair test, since the male player (Karsten Braasch) had already played a round of golf the morning of the matches (and had a couple of adult beverages).

lol Never heard that.

But it reminds me of the US (real) Women's soccer team vs pubescent highschool boys.
