exempting one country and enforcing tariff on the other is a bad idea to begin with.

This case is not about Abe or Aso's survival... It's about Heads of State committing fraud which they admitted to and should be dealt accordingly.

Looks good only on the surface... low job rate is due to shrinking labor for force in Japan and most jobs in demand are temporary and low paying jobs.

Why not just associate the killing to the killers name alone... it is unfair to call it a "Zama serial killer" which is a great misfortune for the victims and law abiding townspeople of Zama (or any location of crime.)

I am against militarization but Japan has all the right to prepare for potential confilct in the future despite the provocation it may create just like China has done so with it's unprecendented military expansion. China aggravates neighbors with it's ginormous $145 billion defense budget and they are calling Japan trouble makers??? The real trouble is in China and everyone knows it.

Posted in: Japan steps up bid to win Australia submarine contract See in context

Submarines being offered from France Germany and Japan all have very similar capabilities and anyone would do fine but what Australia really need is a Nuclear Submarine like the Virginia Class from United States. None of the current offerings have the range, performance & payload required to deal with Chinese infiltration of the East China Seas. But out of the three contenders choosing Japan offers the best political partnership... France and Germany are not going to run to help Aussies when they clash with the Chinese but Japan definitely will.

Tremedous achievement but stealth is not just about form... Shinshin is a great start but it is no way near the Americans without super advanced sensors, radars and source codes that makes it truly stealthy.

Japan always only announces the date of official colonial rule from 1910 but acutal brutal invasion started many years prior to the murder of Korean Empress Min in October 1895 who was molested, mutilated and burned to char after being killed for standing against Japan. The atrocities spanned over 50 years and not 35 yrs as claimed officially by Japanese Govt. It is about time J-Gov took some action and please don't take back or cancel prior apologies anymore.

Jeff Gilespie: I agree that any teacher who lays a hand on child should be duly dealt with but non-abusive discipline should be implemented more in schools. Discipline builds character and self control and it should be taught early on at home and school.

Posted in: Australia gets three bidders for huge submarine contract See in context

Australia should have pursued a nuclear sub instead of the conventional diesel-electric AIP subs. For Aus conventional non-nuclear type will severely hinder their mission capabilities and hardly be a force if conflict breaks out in areas like South China Sea. Soryu is clearly the best SSK in the world right now and it is the only proven sub compared to unproven German and French offerings and if Aus choose to go non-nuclear then Soryu is the best choice but for operational purposes of Australia it's hardly a viable solution for vast space it has to patrol. Also another important issue is that these so called conventional subs will cost nearly as much or in some case more than the Virginia class nuclear sub which I think is the most purposeful choice for Australia.

Posted in: Japan links Australian submarine bid to regional security See in context

Japan have to offer Soryu to be built in Australia in order to compete against German and French bidders but building in Australia can become another potential disaster. Collins sub program was a big failure only because it was built in Australia. If it was left to be built in Sweden it would not suffer the bad reputation it does today. Australians weren't ready back then and they ASC (Australia Shipbuilding Co.) is still not ready to take on this task of building the sub in-house, it has a potential to become another Collins disaster that may wreck the reputation of a great sub as Soryu.
